TOURNAMENT FORMAT

This is a round-robin match play tournament with 60 two-person teams, divided into twelve flights, with five teams per flight.  Each team will play at least one 9-hole match with each of the four other teams in their flight.  We will be using Net Best Ball this year for the match play portion of the event.

We will play off of the low handicap in the group for each match.  The handicaps are then played, as they fall, only for the nine on which the match is played.  If you start your match on the front nine, then it stays on the front nine; similarly, if your match begins on the back nine, it will stay on the back nine.

SCORING (Each  Match is Worth 10 Possible Points)

1 Point        Each hole won                   1 Point Bonus                  Match won

0 Point        Each hole lost                    0 Point Bonus                  Match lost

½ Point      Each hole tied                    ½ Point Bonus                Match tied

6 Points      Win by default

If there is a tie for low net on any given hole during the Best Ball Format, you will break the tie by using your partner’s net score.  If the hole is still halved after using your partner’s net score each team is then awarded ½ Point on that hole.

TOURNAMENT RULES OF PLAY

  • USGA Rules will govern all play.
  • All participants will play from the WHITE Tees.
  • Lie of The Ball.  During the event, you may improve your lie within 6" through the green. (Anywhere but a hazard)  YOUR BALL MUST REMAIN IN THE SAME LENGTH CUT OF GRASS IN WHICH IT ORIGINALLY LAY.
  • Lateral Penalty Area Marked with red lines.  Penalty of One Stroke.
  • Out of Bounds.  Marked with white stakes around the perimeter of the golf course.  Penalty of One Stroke and Distance.
  • Ground Under Repair.  Marked with white paint.  You may take free relief within one clublength away from these areas with no penalty strokes.
  • Golf Car Paths.  You may take free relief within one clublength away from golf car paths no nearer the hole.
  • Staked Trees.  If a staked tree interferes with your stance or swing, you may take free relief within one clublength away from the tree with no penalty strokes.
  • Doubt as to Procedure.  Under USGA Rule 3-3, you are allowed to play a second ball if you are unsure about a rule.  In the event of a rules question, please report to the Rules Committee, PGA Professional Jay Giannetto, immediately upon completion of play.

CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOTOUT

The overall winner will be determined with a Championship Shootout with the flight winners.  Flight ties will be broken by the results from the head-to-head match of the two teams.  The order of the tie-breaker is as follows:

  1. Head-to-head results in the opening five rounds.
  2. Sudden death playoff beginning on hole #12.

Championship Shootout begins at 1:30pm on Saturday.  All flight winners should report to the #3 tee no later than 1:30pm.  All participants and spectators should remain on their original golf cars to view the Championship Shootout.

SHOOTOUT FORMAT

Team Net Alternate Shot.

  • Each team will play alternate shot format.  Player A will tee off on Odd Holes and Player B will tee off on even holes.

  • To derive the alternate shot net score, the 18-hole handicaps of the two-man team are added together, divided by 2 and multiplied by 33%, and rounded down. This is the team’s shootout handicap.  We will take their alternate shot score on each hole and subtract any strokes that are deserved on the hole to get their net alternate shot score.  The teams with the lowest scores will advance in the shootout.

  • Holes to be played:

            Hole                          HDCP

              3                                   4

              10                                 1

              11                                  2

              12                                 5

              18                                 3

  • Five teams will be eliminated on hole 3 and one team will be eliminated on holes 10, 11, 12 and 18. The team eliminated on Hole 12 will be the show team. The remaining two teams will play hole 18 to determine win and place finishers. Any ties on hole 18 will be decided by a chip-off.  For elimination purposes, ties will be decided by a chip-off immediately following play of each hole. Both players will chip and the distance from each ball to the cup will be added together for a team total. The team(s) with the highest total distance will be eliminated.
