Final thank-you’s to our season-long Order of Merit Sponsors Srixon / Cleveland Golf Canada for continuing to support the VGT and helping us develop Canadian Golf for 17 straight years!!

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

The 2023 GATEKEEPER SYSTEMS OPEN is our first Official Event on the 2023 VGT Summer Season with points counting towards the season-long SRIXON/CLEVELAND Order of Merit.

ELIGIBILITY

This event is open to both Male & Female Golfers.  We will have Three divisions:

OPEN DIVISION – Consists of Professionals & Amateurs (5.0 handicap index or less) wanting to play for the ‘OPEN PURSE’ instead of Amateur prizing.

CHAMPIONSHIP AMATEUR (5.0 index & less)

SENIOR DIVISION (55+ years of age & 10.0 or less handicap index).

GATEKEEPER CHALLENGE SERIES

This is the first of 5 GATEKEEPER SERIES CHALLENGE EVENTS where the winner will earn one of only 6 invites to the $5,000 GATEKEEPER SERIES CHALLENGE FINALS at the end of the season (end of September).

The 6th Pro to be invited will be our 2023 Order of Merit Champion, or next highest finisher on the OOM if they have already won a GATEKEEPER CHALLENGE SERIES event. If a player wins two Gatekeeper Challenge Series events in 2023, the player who finishes 2nd place on the Order of Merit will earn the final spot in the event.

FULL FIELD SIZE

OPEN DIVISION: 48 players (40 Pros, 8 Amateurs)

CHAMPIONSHIP AMATEUR: 36 players

SENIOR DIVISION: 36 players

Professional Purse: $17,000*. 1st Place Cheque: $3,500*.  Top 33% of Pro field paid out.

Amateur Prizing: $5,000 based on 72 players ($70/player in tee-gifts & prize pool)

Amateur Prize Payouts: Alternating Gross & Net Scores will determine prize payouts

*Purse & Prize Payouts: Based on full fields.

NEW FOR 2023: Amateurs may choose to pay an additional $100 to compete against the Pros in the ‘OPEN’ field for the Open Purse. They can win up to a $1,200 cash prize.  Their $100 fee paid will go directly into the “Open Purse”.

For Example: If 8 Amateurs decide to play in the ‘Open’ field vs. the Pros, the purse will increase from $17,000 to $17,800.

Every Amateur registering in the ‘Open’ field will count for ¼ Pro when considering the overall field size and purse payout.

For example:

If 40 Pros in field.  Purse payout = 35% = Top 14 paid out.

If 40 Pros + 8 Amateurs in Open field.  Purse payout = 35% of Pros = 14

plus 35% of Amateurs (8) x 1/4 = top 15 paid out

For this event, Male and Female Professionals and Amateurs playing in the Open Division will compete against one another for one overall Prize Purse. Female golfers will be provided with a shorter yardage equal to approx..85% of the Men’s yardage.

In both Amateur Divisions (Champ/Senior), if we receive 5 or more female entries in the division, we will have separate Male and Female Flights within your division. If we do not receive 5 ore more female entries in these divisions, female Amateurs will compete vs. the Male Amateurs in their division, playing from approximately 85% of the Male yardage.

PROGRESSIVE HOLE-IN-ONE JACKPOT RULES

  1. In order to qualify for the Hole-in-one (H.I.O) JACKPOT offered at a VGT event, a player must be entered into the $20 skins game/hole-in-one pot for that event.  If there is no winner of the hole-in-one at VGT event, the current hole-in-one pot will carry over to the next event until we have a winner of the jackpot.  If by the end of the Winter Tour the jackpot has not been won, the current jackpot will be carried over into the Summer Tour schedule.
  2. If the jackpot accumulates to $5,000, it will be cut-off at $5,000 and the first eligible person (see above) to score a hole-in-one on an eligible jackpot hole will receive the $5,000 payout.  A secondary Hole-in-one purse will be started as soon as the original jackpot reaches $5,000.  From the time the original purse reaches $5,000, moneys collected for the H.I.O purse will accumulate in this secondary pot while the first pot remains at $5,000. The secondary pot will continue to grow until the next eligible player scores a hole-in-one on the designated jackpot hole at a VGT event.  The maximum H.I.O purse paid out at any time will be $5,000, and once the pot has reached $5,000, a 3rd and 4th purse (and so on) will be established for future winners.
  3. Due to the skill difference of Pros versus the Amateurs in the field, we level the playing field for the JACKPOT two ways:
    1. By allowing the Division 1,2 and 3 amateurs to tee-off a shorter designated tee-box at various times compared to Professionals and Championship Amateurs.
    2. VGT hosts numerous Amateur only events where Amateurs have a chance to win the JACKPOT without Pros in the field.
