Terms of Competition

Maine Golf is combining two popular formats into one tournament and calling it the Maine Junior Individual & Team Championship. This will be a marquee two-day, 36-hole event hosted by Riverside Golf Course, Portland, Maine on August 1st & 2nd.

Similar to the Maine high school state championships, we will run an individual and team championship at the same time. The team championship is an "optional" additional opportunity to play with a teammate, friend or acquaintance. It is not mandatory to have a teammate to play in the event.

Teams will be comprised of two players. Players may select their teammate however they see fit. There are no restrictions. Teams will be flighted based on the age of the older player of the two participants.

Individuals, that want to play as individuals only, are encouraged to compete at the same time for the overall medalist. The individual medalist will be the Maine Junior Champion. We will have flights for the individual winners as well.

Deadline for entry is July 22, 2023.

The Maine Junior Individual and team Championship is open to Maine resident amateurs who have not yet reached their 19th birthday on August 21, 2023. Non-resident juniors. who are members of a Maine Golf member club, live in Maine in the summer months and who compete in at least five NEPGA Junior Tour events are also eligible for the Maine Junior Championship only.

All players must file an entry for the championship. Players must apply for the championship online via Golf Genius, the software Maine Golf uses to conduct tournaments. All players must have a Golf Genius account prior to registration.

The team championship will be flighted based on the age of the oldest team member.

Cost: The entry fee for the championship is $40 (9-hole flight) $60 (18-hole flight)

Entry deadline: July 22, 2023 at 11:59 pm.

Players are reminded to apply early to allow time for resolving any errors, an incomplete application, or for not adhering to the eligibility as prescribed above.

The championship will consist of 36 holes of stroke play for all divisions except the youngest division, who will play 18 holes (9 holes per day).

Tuesday, August 1:          First round, 18 holes

Wednesday, August 2:    Second round, 18 holes

In the event of a tie in any flight, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff.

Winner: Crystal trophy for the winner of each division.

All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by Local Rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings. The competition is deemed to be closed when the trophy is awarded to the champion.

As this is a junior championship, players will not be allowed to use motorized carts in the championship. Any requests for golf carts must be directed to Maine Golf.

Players may withdraw from championships via Golf Genius or by reaching out to Maine Golf staff. Maine Golf will refund all of the entry fee, less $25 to cover processing fees and associated costs, if the withdrawal occurs beyond one week from the first round of the tournament. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment.

No refunds will be issued within one week of the first round of any championship. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually and are at the discretion of Maine Golf.
