Sunday Sweeps

Sponsored by Maine Golf

We at Maine Golf would like to introduce the first Spring series of Sunday Sweeps! For our returning players, welcome back! For our new players, Sunday Sweeps is a fun, COMPETITIVE series of one-day tournaments taking place on Sundays throughout both the Spring and Fall seasons. Coined from a common golf term used for a friendly competition on Sundays, this tournament series is aimed at not only introducing you to players around your age from different parts of the state, but also to get you some exposure to competitive tournament golf!

OUR OBJECTIVE

Our goal is to provide a competitive golf opportunity on Sundays in May and June, finishing with a “Tour Championship” at the end of the season.  Prizes and recognition are part of the offering.

  • For our high schoolers, many of which only play 9-holes of regular season golf, this is an opportunity for you to play an 18-hole round of golf to prepare you for the team/individual qualifiers and states in the Fall.
  • For our middle schoolers, many of which do not have the opportunity to play 18-holes in an organized golf activity in the fall, this is an opportunity to improve your skills in a competitive setting with other middle schoolers.
  • For our younger golfers, it’s all about the golf experience!  Learn how to play on a golf course set up to make you successful.  We want you to enjoy some quality time with fellow golfers, parents, and grandparents.  Caddies are encouraged in our 10-13 age group and mandatory in our U9 age group.

THE TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

The field for the Tour Championship will be determined by the Committee.  Generally speaking, the Tour Championship will consist of the top point earners in each flight.  A cut will be made in certain instances.  Points awarded at the TC will be double a regular season event.

LOCAL RULES & EXPECTATIONS

  1. Etiquette is the number one (1) rule in golf.  Following all etiquette rules are  most important.  Manners, integrity, safety, pace of play all outrank score.
  2. It is our expectation that foursomes play 9-holes in 2:15 hours or less.  With caddies and “double par” maximum, pace of play will be strictly enforced.  It is up to the player to know where they stand in relation to the time expectations.  Caddies in younger groups should assist in this process. Failure to comply could result in penalty strokes and future placement on the tee sheet.  We subscribe to the famous saying “play well, play fast; play poorly play faster.”
  3. Players and caddies must walk.  Exceptions approved by the tournament administrator in extreme cases only.
  4. Players begin each hole from the appropriate tee marker.  Players must tee off within 2-club lengths of the tee marker; no nearer the hole.
  5. Scores will be capped at “double par.”  This ensures a player having a difficult hole keeps pace with the field.
  6. No more than 3-minutes searching for a golf ball.
  7. Players are required to report directly to the scoring area immediately upon completion of the last hole played.

SPECTATORS

  1. Spectators may follow the players but must remain no closer than 50 feet from the players and caddie, when used.  Advice and coaching is not permitted by a spectator.  If the player does not have a caddie, a spectator cannot assume the role of caddie once the round has started.  Hover spectators are not allowed.  Let the golfers play!
  2. Spectators are expected to walk unless approval for a cart is requested prior to play.  When a spectator is granted a cart, they must first check in with the tournament administrator (generally at the Maine Golf table) and then pay for the cart with staff of the course.  It is possible that both sides of the cart will be charged and carts are granted only if they are available.
