CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION

POLICIES, PROCEDURES, & GUIDELINES:

Prior to participating, all participants must review the SCGA’s Policies & Procedures

 

FORMAT:

Teams were placed at random into two groups, with one group containing Three Teams and one group containing Four Teams. The Group of Three Teams will play the 9-point game and the Group of Four will play the 16-point game, as outlined in the 2023 Scratch League Manual. The top team from each group will advance to the 2023 California Scratch League Championship, to be held on Monday, November 27th at Poppy Hills GC in Pebble Beach, CA.   

 

Lineups must be submitted to champs@scga.org no later than Sunday, November 12th.

 

GROUPINGS:

Group 1:  The Saticoy Club, Victoria Club, Virginia CC
 

Group 2:  Hillcrest CC, Rustic Canyon GC, The Farms GC, Santa Ana CC

 

REGISTRATION:

All Team Captains must check-in at the SCGA registration table prior to their starting time. Players will check in to the Golf Shop to obtain their golf carts. 

 

STARTING TIMES & PAIRINGS: 

  • Starting times will range from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 9:40 a.m. Group 1 tee times will range from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and Group 2 tee times will range from 8:40-9:40 a.m.
  • Players are encouraged to arrive at their assigned tee well in advance of their starting time, as the SCGA starter will have information to discuss with each player in the group. Furthermore, players arriving late will be penalized under Rule 5.3a of the Rules of Golf. For example, the 9:00 a.m. starting time is defined as 9:00:00, and players arriving after that time are considered late. Lead groups should plan to be at their assigned tee 10 minutes in advance of their starting time. Subsequent groups are encouraged to arrive once the preceding group has teed off.

   

TEES & YARDAGE:

Play will be from the SCGA tee markers, which will be set at a mixed yardage.

 

Course Rating: 73.6 / Slope: 140 / Approx. 6,805 yards / Par: 72.

PRACTICE ROUNDS:

  • Practice rounds may be arranged by contacting the Golf Shop at (951) 770-8210.
  • Participants will receive the Tournament rate of $168 and Professionals will receive industry rate of $120. Carts and range balls are included with your round.
  • Due to limited course availability, practice rounds are encouraged to be taken prior to the week of 11/13.

 

DRIVING RANGE:

  • The driving range will be available by 6:30 a.m. on the day of the Championship.
  • Practice balls are provided compliments of Journey at Pechanga and will be located on the driving range. 

 

 

FOOD SERVICE & PURCHASES:

  • Journey’s End will be open and available by 7 a.m.
  • Cash and major credit cards are accepted for food purchases. 

 

RULES OF PLAY:

  • The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA and The R&A govern play.
  • Local Rules and Terms of the Competition can be found on the SCGA Hard Card and the Notice to Players that will be emailed to players the day prior to the Championship.

DRESS CODE:

  • Players must be properly attired in golf shirts, slacks, Bermuda-length dress or golf shorts and soft spike shoes.
  • Shirts must be tucked in and hats must be worn forward.   
  • Jeans (any color or any kind), T-shirts, and tank tops are prohibited.   

 

TIE-BREAKING:

In case of a tie between two teams at the end of the competition, the teams tied will select two players to play a sudden-death aggregate playoff immediately following the conclusion of play.  Play will be in one group of four using the 16-point game format.  After completion of the first playoff hole, the highest point total of both teammates will determine who moves on.  If still tied, all players will continue on to an additional sudden-death playoff hole(s).

 

In case of a tie between three teams at the end competition, the teams tied will select three players to play a sudden-death aggregate playoff immediately following the conclusion of play.  Play will be in three groups of three using the 9-point game format.  After completion of the first playoff hole, the highest point total of all three teammates will determine who moves on.  If all teams are still tied after the first playoff hole, all players from those teams will continue on to an additional sudden-death playoff hole(s).  If two teams are still tied after the first playoff hole (or additional playoff holes), the teams tied will select two players to play the next playoff hole(s) using the 16-point game format.
