Open Division Requirements

Open divisions were created to provide more skilled and experienced juniors the opportunity to compete against one another over a more challenging and longer course yardage.

Open divisions are available at all OGA Junior Golf Majors except the Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship, where there are no age divisions. When events have open divisions, junior team points are only available to players competing in the Open division.

  • The Open Division is available to 12-18 year-old girls with a handicap index of 14.0 or less and 14-18 year-old boys with a handicap index of 7.0 or less.
  • Girls should average 85 or less on a regulation course of approximately 5,900 yards or longer.  Boys should average 80 or less on a regulation course of approximately 6,600 yards.
  • Course yardages will be approximately 5,800-6,200 yards for girls and 6,500-6,900 for boys.

While OGA Junior Golf believes it to be the player’s choice to compete within such divisions, it is also our responsibility to restrict players from future enrollment within that division if they do not play up to the open division standard:

  • Any Open Division player who scores over 100 will be required to compete within their age division in the following Major.
  • Girls scoring 95 or above in two separate rounds will be required to compete in her age division in the following Major.  (Ex: Central Willamette 95-87 Southern Oregon 79-95)
  • Boys scoring 90 or above in two separate rounds will be required to compete in their age division in the following Major. (Ex: Central Willamette 91-80, Southern Oregon 87-92)

If any player does not meet the following standards, they will receive an email from OGA Junior Golf enforcing the Open Division policy.

*The Open Division is designed to better serve a broad skill level of players in the best possible way.  The Open Division allows for players to compete at a very high level on a course length that is better suited for higher skilled juniors.

PLAYING UP AN AGE DIVISION

In rare circumstances, OGA Junior Golf allows certain individuals to play in an older age division. To be considered, the youth golfer MUST show overwhelming evidence their talent & maturity levels are far superior to their current age group. The application process is handled by the OGA Junior Golf Committee.  Please fill out the application below and submitted by April 1st of the year.
