Prairie Dunes is an American original and one of the most scenic courses in the country. You could never mistake pictures of it for any other American course, although it is easily confused with some of the best of the British Isles. In 1935 the Carey family commissioned architectural genius Perry Maxwell to design a masterpiece. Prairie Dunes opened the first 9 holes on September 13, 1937. Twenty years later in 1957, The Dunes opened the second 9 holes, designed by Perry Maxwell’s son, Press, after Perry’s death in 1952. In the vision of the Carey family and Perry Maxwell, Prairie Dunes has become a world renowned course and has played home to several major events; including the 2002 U.S. Women’s Open, the 2006 U.S. Senior Open, the 2014 Men’s NCAA Championship, and five Trans-Mississippi Amateur Championships.
