The Louisiana Golf Association Amateur Championship is the most prestigious of the organization's championships, having been conducted every year since 1920. Entries are open to any Louisiana resident (as of at least 90 days prior to June 6, 2024) who is an amateur golfer holding membership in a LGA member club in good standing. Entrants must possess a certified USGA Handicap Index of 8.0 or less.

 

ENTRY DEADLINE: Tuesday, May 7, 2024, 5:00 PM CST

ENTRY FEE: $250, plus cart fee for qualifying round only. Important Note: Entrants not successful in qualifying for Championship rounds play will receive a refund of $100 at the conclusion of the Amateur ChampionshipIf an entrant fails to show up to the qualifier and does not notify the LGA before the start of the qualifier, no refund will be issued. For those who qualify for Championship rounds play, there are no additional fees.

 

 REFUND POLICY: Entry fee will be refunded regardless of reason if LGA office is notified, in writing, before 5:00 PM CST on May 7, 2024. After 5 PM on May 7, 2024, fee will be refunded only in the event of injury or illness provided notification (accompanied by a doctor’s statement) reaches LGA office by June 5, 2024. A $50 service charge will be deducted from all refunds.

CONDITIONS/SCHEDULE: The LGA Tournament Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein. The decision of the Tournament Committee in any matter shall be final. Starting times for qualifying rounds will be available by contacting the golf shop at your qualifying site on or after May 8, 2024. Please call early as the golf shop could be closed the day prior to the Qualifier. 

DRESS CODE: In all Sectional Qualifiers and Championship rounds play, competitors must be neat in appearance and wear appropriate attire. No gym shorts, cutoffs, blue jeans, tee shirts, etc. Shorts must be Bermuda length. Important Note: All qualifying host facilities and The Country Club of Louisiana are spikeless facilities and all competitors will be required to wear spikeless shoes.

ELIGIBILITY: Entries are open to any Louisiana resident (as of at least 90 days prior to June 6, 2024) who is an amateur golfer (as defined by the USGA) holding membership in a LGA member club in good standing (2024 club and individual dues must be paid). Entrants must possess a certified USGA Handicap Index of 8.0 or less. Non-amateurs are not eligible. Entries are subject to rejection at any time (including during the Championship) by the LGA. Reasons for rejection may include unbecoming conduct. 

FORMAT OF PLAY: Competition will be in two stages, stroke play.

1. Sectional Qualifying: 18 holes, for all except exempt entrants.
2. Championship rounds: A field of 144 players will be accepted. 72 holes (4 days x 18 holes/day). 

Championship Schedule:

Thursday, June 6/First Round, 18 holes; Friday, June 7/Second Round, 18 holes (60 lowest scorers and ties will continue play June 8 & 9; remainder eliminated after 36 holes).

Saturday, June 8/Third Round, 18 holes; Sunday, June 9/Fourth Round, 18 holes.

Lowest scorer for 72 holes will be the 105th Louisiana Amateur Champion.

 

PRACTICE PRIVILEGES: Practice round availability for qualifying events is at the discretion of the club hosting the qualifying event. Please contact the club where you will be qualifying for more information. Practice privileges are extended to participants in Championship Round play at The Country Club of Louisiana on June 5 (one practice round only/participants only). Cart fee paid by LGA.

PRIZES/PLAYOFF: Gift certificates will be awarded to the top 20 finishers in the Championship. The Amateur Champion will also receive a Crystal Trophy signifying the 105th Amateur Championship. In case of a tie for the Championship, a sudden death playoff will take place immediately upon conclusion of play on Sunday.

WAGR: As part of their expanding relationship to govern the game globally, the USGA partners with the R&A in compiling and publishing the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). The LGA Amateur Championship is a WAGR counting event, and the results will be sent to the R&A in St Andrews, Scotland. A primary purpose of the WAGR is to provide exemptions into USGA and R&A amateur championships for top ranked amateur golfers. The rankings are updated every Wednesday at 12:00 noon, Greenwich Mean Time. Additional information about the WAGR and the current rankings may be found at www.wagr.com.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

RULES OF GOLF: Play will be governed by the current Rules of Golf and LGA Rules of Play Card. All questions will be settled by the LGA Rules Committee, whose decision will be final.

 

EXEMPTIONS FROM SECTIONAL QUALIFYING (PLAYERS MUST MEET ALL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS)

 

1. Top 30 and ties from the 2023 Louisiana Amateur Championship. 

2. LGA Amateur Champions of the last 10 years. 

3. LGA Mid-Amateur Champions of the last five years (2019-23). 

4. LGA Senior Amateur Champions of the last three years (2021-23). 

5. LGA Junior Amateur Champions of the last three years and top 5 finishers in 2023. 

6. All Amateur qualifiers to the 2023 U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Mid-Amateur, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Senior Amateur, and U.S. Junior Amateur.
