Terms of Competition
ELIGIBILITY
The Senior Women’s Championship is open to female amateurs who will be 50 or older on July 29, 2024. All players must be in good standing as members of a Maine golf club and must be active in Maine GHIN on or before the date they submit their applications. No guests may compete in championship events.
FORMAT
The Senior Women’s Championship is a two-day tournament featuring individual, 18-hole stroke play. On the first day, all registered players will compete. For the second day, only the top twenty-seven players plus ties will move forward to vie for the championship. On day one, players may also enter an optional skins competition for $5 in addition to the entry fee. Players who move on to day two and prefer to ride will need to make arrangements for carts with the host club.
The tournament will be flighted by age groups: A (50-54), B (55-59), C (60-64), D (65-69), E (70-74), F (75+).
ENTRY INFORMATION
A player must file an online entry for the championship. She may complete an application at mainegolf.org or at the Maine Golf women's portal. Entries will not be taken over the phone. Once the field is set, cart reservations will be processed using credit card or voucher funds.
The field will be limited to 120 players. If the tournament fills up prior to the close of entry, players will still be allowed to register. If necessary, after the registration deadline has passed, the field will be narrowed to the 120 players with the lowest handicap indexes. Maine Golf has the final say in determining the field for the championship.
Entry fee: $45 for Round 1; $5 for optional skins day one
An additional $45 for players that make the cut for Round 2.
Entry deadline: July 10, 2024 (before midnight)
Players are reminded to apply early to allow time for addressing errors, incomplete applications, and/or eligibility issues.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The championship will consist of 36 holes of stroke play.
Monday, July 29: First round, 18 holes, all players
Tuesday, July 30: Second round, 18 holes, top 27 day one finishers
In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff.
PRIZES
The two-day winner of the Maine Women’s Senior Championship will be conferred the title of Maine Senior Women’s Champion and will receive a crystal trophy and a monetary award. The runner-up will also receive a crystal trophy and a monetary award. Awards will be added to their Maine Golf accounts.
Day One gross and net prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries in each age flight, and winnings will be added to a player’s Maine Golf account.
A player may win only one competition.
STARTING TIMES
Starting times will be posted at Maine Golf website and will be emailed to all players in the field on Friday, July 19.
RULES OF GOLF
All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by local rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings.
TRANSPORTATION
Players will be allowed to use motorized carts in the championship. Cart reservations will be processed and paid for after the field is set for Day One using credit card or voucher funds. Carts will be limited to two per pairing group.
CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULES
The Maine Golf Women’s Tournament Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions, and/or schedules herein. The decision of these committees in any matter is final.
WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY
Advanced entry fees will be refunded regardless of reason if Maine Golf is notified before the close of entries. Maine Golf will refund all the entry fee, less $5 to cover processing fees and associated costs. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment. After the close of entries, fees will be refunded only if the tournament remains full or in the event of injury or illness. No refunds will be awarded after the start of the tournament. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually.
