We will be playing in groups of three all off #1 tee.   We plan to tee everyone off of #1 and #10 beginning at 8:00 a.m. for day two but we reserve the right to alter this due to weather or any other unforeseen circumstances.

All Contestants are responsible for knowing the Rules and Conditions of the Competition.  Please read the entire memo!

The ONE BALL RULE IS IN EFFECT FOR THIS COMPETITION. (SEE PAGE TWO.)

Also ON PAGE TWO: PLEASE READ THE regulations regarding cellular phones.

Practice Rounds: If you are interested in playing a practice round at Beaver Hills CC prior to the Mid-Am, you can do so for a fee of $35 (if riding add a cart fee of $17) plus tax.  Please call the Beaver Hills Golf Shop at 319-266-9172 to make a reservation.  Players are encouraged to play in a block of times on Sunday afternoon from 2-4 p.m.  Additional practice round fees are at the discretion of BHCC.

REGISTRATION TABLE:  There will be a registration table set up near the golf shop entrance by 7:00 a.m.  Please check-in when you arrive.  You will receive the local rules sheet, hole location sheet and any other necessary materials for the day’s competition.

LATE TO TEE: Rule 6-3a provides:  “The player shall start at the time laid down by the Committee.”  The penalty for breach of rule 6-3 is as follows: If the player arrives at his starting point, ready to play, within five minutes after his starting time the penalty for failure to start on time is two strokes at the first hole in stroke play.  Otherwise the penalty for breach of this rule is disqualification.  THE COMMITTEE REQUESTS THAT YOU REPORT TO THE tee AT LEAST TEN MINUTES IN ADVANCE OF YOUR STARTING TIME.

Range Balls: The range will open by 7:00 a.m. each day.  Range balls are compliments of the IGA.  Contestants may use the designated practice range before play only.  If you wish to hit range balls after your round you must purchase range balls from the golf shop.

Distance-Measuring Devices: For all play in IGA conducted events, a player may obtain distance information by use of a distance-measuring device.  If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., elevation changes, wind-speed, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3.”  (See Decision 14-3/0.5)

GOLF CARTS: Carts are not mandatory for this event.  If you wish to take a cart, the fee for all championship rounds will be $17 per seat, plus tax, paid to the Beaver Hills Golf Shop.  A maximum of two carts will be allowed for any and all groups.  The Golf Shop staff and IGA Officials have the discretion to consolidate players onto one cart whenever they deem it necessary.  Caddies and/or spectators are not guaranteed to ride! Carts must be returned to the cart staging area immediately upon completion of your round. Under no circumstance should a contestant return to the course on the cart used during his round. If you wish to become a spectator and to watch friends play, you must walk to do so as the cart rental you pay is for your round of golf only.

The ONE BALL RULE IS IN EFFECT FOR THIS COMPETITION.

(i) 'One Ball' Condition

During a stipulated round, the balls a player uses must be of the same brand and type as detailed by a single entry on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF CONDITION:

Match Play - At the conclusion of the hole at which the breach is discovered, the state of the match shall be adjusted by deducting one hole for each hole at which a breach occurred; maximum deduction per round: Two holes.
Stroke Play - Two strokes for each hole at which any breach occurred; maximum penalty per round: Four strokes.

(ii) Procedure When Breach Discovered

When a player discovers that he has used a ball in breach of this condition, he shall abandon that ball before playing from the next teeing ground and complete the round using a proper ball; otherwise, the player shall be disqualified. If discovery is made during play of a hole and the player elects to substitute a proper ball before completing that hole, the player shall place a proper ball on the spot where the ball used in breach of the condition lay.

Cell phone and Electronic Devices Policy

The Iowa Golf Association prohibits the use of electronic devices: cellular phones, pagers, iPods, and other similar sound producing devices during the stipulated round.   Any contestant or caddie found using such equipment will be informed to discontinue use.  (Use of a cell phone includes text messaging.)  See Decision 14-3/17

Note: Cell phones may be used ONLY in an emergency OR, to contact a member of the Rules Committee to expedite a ruling needed by someone in the group.

The same policy applies to spectators.  Contestants are requested to inform those friends and family who are spectators to comply with this policy.

Rule 33-7 states that: “If a Committee considers that a player is guilty of a serious breach of etiquette, it may impose a penalty of disqualification under this Rule.” Use of cell phones during competition will be deemed to be such a breach of etiquette by the Committee.

Contestants not complying with this condition will be asked to discontinue use of the cell phone immediately.  After one notification, if the contestant is discovered using the cell phone he will be disqualified from the event.  In the case of a caddie or spectator not complying, he/she shall be required to discontinue use or to leave the course.
