Eligibilty:

 

This tournament is open to female amateur golfers who are members of member clubs of the MSGA with an up-to-date USGA INDEX of 30.0 or less as of June 1, 2018.  The handicap index must be at the MSGA member club shown on the entry form, and must be viewable on the verification site of www.msga.org.

 

Format & Field Size:

 

On Monday, July 16, 2018, there will be an 18-hole stroke-play qualifying round for the Championship Flight.  A player must play the stroke-play qualifying round to qualify for the Championship Flight.  Players opting not to play in the Championship Flight may play a practice round on Monday. The Championship Flight will be a 16 player bracket, with the defending champion receiving the first seed, unless she opts to compete for the medalist prize.  The remaining places will be filled by the players with the lowest scores from the Championship Flight qualifying round and will be seeded by their qualifying round score.  In the event of ties for the 16th place, there will be a hole-by-hole play-off at the conclusion of the qualifying round.  Ties for any other match play seeding in the Championship Flight will be resolved by a match of cards according to USGA recommended method. Players in the qualifying round who do not advance to the Championship Flight will be divided into flights of eight players and seeded according to their most current handicap indexes.  If two or more players have the same handicap index, their seeding will be determined by lot. 

Match play begins on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, for all flights.  Those defeated in the first match of the Championship Flight will form the First Flight. On Wednesday, the Championship and First flights will play a morning match and an afternoon match.  All other flights play a morning match only.  Final matches for all flights will be on Thursday.

 

Prizes:

 

The Champion’s name will be engraved on the permanent trophy.  Prizes will be awarded to the Medalist(s) as well as the winners and runners-up in each flight.

 

Rules:

 

USGA Rules govern all play, except as modified by Local Rules.  All participants should arrive at the first tee no later than 10 minutes prior to their assigned starting time.  

If a player elects to withdraw from the tournament, she must promptly notify the MSGA-WD Officer-In-Charge to ensure that an alternate player has a fair opportunity to play.  Full entry fee will be refunded prior to July 9, 2018.  

 

Practice Round & Yardage:

 

 

Practice rounds other than the practice round chosen on Monday, July 16th, are at the discretion of the host club.  Please contact 301-874-5400 to schedule a time.

There will be two yardages for this competition.  The longer yardage will be used for the stroke-play Championship Flight qualifying round.  During match play, the Championship-Fourth Flights will play a longer yardage and the remaining flights will play a shorter yardage.  The match play yardage is subject to change at any time without notice.
