FORMAT

18-holes of Best-Ball-of-Four Stroke Play. Teams register as two players; one class A and one class B player.

Foursomes will be paired by The Committee one player MUST BE CLASS A AND ONE PLAYER MUST BE

CLASS B as of AUGUST 1 revision date. Each player plays her own ball, and the lower score of the four

players is the recorded score for the hole. Each player receives 90% of the Course Handicap, taking the strokes as they fall on the card. Only the player’s score that counts as the gross or net score for the team for each hole needs to be recorded on the official score card.  Certificates are awarded to the members of the low gross and net teams. Ties will be decided by matching cards. The winner of each will be determined on the basis of the best team score, gross or net as applicable, for the last nine holes of the day.  If still tied, the winner will be determined on the basis of the best team score, gross or net as applicable, for the last six holes, last three holes and finally the 18th hole.  One-half, one-third, one-sixth and one-eighteenth of each player’s Course Handicap will be deducted to determine the best net score.  If this procedure does not break the tie, the winner will be determined by blind draw.

DISTANCE-MEASURING DEVICES

For all play during WMGA competitions a player may obtain distance information by use of a distance-measuring device. If during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., elevation changes, wind speed, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3.

LOCAL RULES

OUT OF BOUNDS Holes #1, #3, #4, #10, #12 and #15

Defined by White stakes on Holes #1, #3, #4, #10, #12 and #15. On Hole #4 West, the stone wall defines out of bounds.  A ball is considered out of bounds if it comes to rest over the wall itself. The wall has been deemed an integral part of the course. THE DRIVING RANGE IS OUT OF BOUNDS.

GROUND UNDER REPAIR

Ground under repair defined by connected white lines.

DECORATIVE FLOWER BEDS

Decorative flower beds have been declared GUR from which play is prohibited.

STONE WALLS AND BRIDGE HOLE #16

Stone walls and bridge are considered integral parts of the course.

HOLE #18

For balls hit over the green onto the cart path or into the Clubhouse bushes, please use the drop area to the upper right of the green, towards the patio – no penalty.

TURF BREEZE FANS

Turf Breeze Fans have been deemed to be Temporary Immovable Obstructions. If a fan interferes with your stance, the lie of your ball or the area of your intended swing OR if the fan intervenes directly with your line of play (or within one club length of such intervention) you may take relief, without penalty, by lifting and dropping the ball within one club length of the nearest point of relief and not nearer to the hole. The ball may be cleaned when lifted.

SEAMS OF CUT TURF (Sod Seams)

The Local Rule as prescribed in Appendix I is in effect. (Through the green, seams of cut turf (not the turf itself) are deemed to be ground under repair. However, interference by a seam with the player’s stance is deemed not to be, of itself, interference under Rule 25-1. If the ball lies in or touches the seam or the seam interferes with the area of intended swing, relief is available under Rule 25-1. All seams within the cut turf area are considered the same seam.)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONTINUANCE OF PLAY

Winged Foot Golf Club does have a lightning detection system. In the event of lightning in the area, WMGA officials on the course will be equipped with air horns. Although bad weather is not of itself a good reason for discontinuing play, a player is permitted to discontinue play at any time she herself believes there is a danger from lightning. The WMGA strongly endorses each individual’s attention, vigilance and care in this regard, to one’s own safety and that of one’s caddie.

Rule 6-8(b) details the procedure for discontinuance of play, e.g. darkness, golf course unplayable, which shall be signaled by three short blasts, repeated of an air horn(s). If players are in the process of playing a hole, they may continue provided they do so without delay. If players choose to continue, they shall discontinue either before or immediately after completing the hole. The penalty for breach of this Rule is disqualification.

In potentially dangerous situations, e.g. lightning in the area, play shall be discontinued immediately following a suspension of play by the Committee, which shall be signaled by one prolonged blast, repeated of an air horn(s). If a player fails to discontinue play immediately, she shall be disqualified unless circumstances warrant waiving such a penalty as provided in Rule 33-7.

Play shall not resume in either case until signaled by two short blasts, repeated of an air horn(s). All practice areas shall be closed during a suspension of play, until the Committee has declared them open for use.

When play is discontinued in a dangerous situation, please seek shelter immediately in an enclosed structure or shelter noted on map on reverse.
