NOTICE TO COMPETITORS

 

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT: 36-holes, Four-Ball stroke play. (The Championship may be shortened as needed by the Committee in the event of inclement weather conditions). The Champion will be the team who returns the lowest 36-hole score.

 

Teams will play 18-holes either of the first two days, Monday or Tuesday. Thirty-six (36) teams qualify for Wednesday’s play. The number of teams advancing from each day is based on the percentage of teams playing each of the first two days. This will be determined and announced at the start of the Championship. Additionally, any team, regardless of day, that is within four (4) strokes of the overall lead after the completion of the first round by all teams will qualify for the final round.

 

STARTING TIMES - MONDAY & TUESDAY: Play will begin from both #1 and 10 tees at 7:30 am AND at 12:30 pm.


STARTING TIMES - WEDNESDAY: Final Round starting times will begin from both #1 and 10 tees at approximately 8:00 am with the leaders starting at 9:30 am from the 1st tee.

 

PLAYOFF: In the event there is a tie for the Championship, there will be a playoff immediately following the conclusion of play on a hole-by-hole basis.  If necessary, the playoff will start on Hole 18 and, if still tied, continue to Hole 1 and continue that loop until the Champions are decided.

 

RULES OF PLAY: The Rules of Golf, MGA Terms of Competition, this Notice to Competitors, as well as any Local Rules established specifically for the Championship will govern play. All information will be available on the Championship and/or MGA website. Players should make the effort to download and review all of the above information.

 

RULE 23 – FOUR-BALL:  According to Rule 23.2b(1), hole scores recorded on the team’s Official Digital Scorecard MUST be assigned to the player who made the score.  Failure to do so will result in either (a) being forced to take a higher score or (b) DISQUALIFICATION should the score be lower than the person’s correct score for that hole.


PACE OF PLAY: Due to the size of the field, it is imperative that players play without delay so that all play finishes on the day scheduled.

 

The MGA Pace of Play Policy will be in effect and strictly enforced. The Pace of Play for the Championship can be found at the Championship webpage.  Players should make the effort to read the policy prior to the beginning of the Championship.

 

DRESS CODE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP: For all AS STATED IN THE ENTRY FORM, THE DRESS CODE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. MGA competitions, players must be neat in appearance with respect to personal grooming and clothing. All males are required to wear shirts with collars and sleeves, and either golf slacks or Bermuda shorts, which measure no higher than 2 inches above their knees. Shirts are expected to be tucked in unless specifically designed to be worn out. Examples of attire NOT ACCEPTABLE include the following: Cargo shorts, Short shorts, athletic shorts, tennis shorts, cut-offs, jeans, jean shorts, tank tops, t-shirts and sweat pants. The Committee will decide whether this requirement has been met and will withdraw the entry of a player who does not comply. Caddies are expected to follow this dress code as well; players will be responsible for the dress of their caddies.

 

            Gentlemen are expected to remove their hats upon entering the clubhouse.

 

PLAYER REGISTRATION: There will be a Player Registration Tent staffed each day. It will be located on the grass at the back of the driving range.  It will be staffed at least one hour prior to the first starting time each day.  Please take the time to register.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP PRACTICE ROUNDS: We are fortunate to have Oak Ridge Country Club as the host site for this year’s Championship!  The MVCC Board has decided that practice rounds will be available for players only.  Contact the Golf Shop (952/939-5460) and identify yourself as an MGA Four-Ball contestant.  The fee is $80+tax (walking). Players will be paired with other contestants.  

 

COURSE SET-UP: You may view the anticipated course setup on the Championship webpage under the “Rules/Resources” tab as well as below.

 

STARTING TIMES: There will be no change in starting times other than by decision of the committee due to weather conditions. Starting times for Round 1 (both days) will be posted on the Championship webpage approximately five (5) days prior to the Championship.

 

FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICE: Food and beverage service will be available all three days (although, it may be limited to snacks on Monday) on a CHARGE ONLY basis (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover).  All food and beverages, except the awards lunch following play on Wednesday, are at the player’s expense. 

 

 

PRACTICE RANGE: The practice range will open at least one hour prior to the first starting time daily during the Championship. Range balls are complimentary. Range balls will NOT be available after a player’s round. 

 

LODGING: No lodging has been arranged for the Championship.

 

CELL PHONE POLICY: The MGA prohibits the use of cell phones and other telecommunications devices during play for communications purposes.

 

CADDIES AND CARTS: Caddies ARE PERMITTED in the Championship.  Carrying your bag is permitted, as is the use of a pull cart (including motorized), but motorized riding carts are prohibited for players during the Championship.  Participating players who have a condition covered by the ADA may apply for use of a cart.

 

AWARDS LUNCH: The MGA will provide a lunch immediately following play on Wednesday for all players (only) making the cut. Sorry, but guests and caddies are not included.

 

PRIZES: Trophies will be awarded to the Champion and Runner-up teams for their permanent possession. Merchandise prizes will be awarded as determined by the Tournament Committee.

 

POSTING SCORES: The MGA will NOT post scores from the Championship. If you wish to post your scores, please ensure they are posted as tournament (“T”) scores. The Course and Slope Ratings are 73.0/133.
