Information and Local Rules

 

INFORMATION

 

TEES: All competitors will play from the MGA tee markers.

 

FORMAT: 54 holes, stroke play (The event may be shortened due to extenuating circumstances.). The lowest scorer will receive the Totten Heffelfinger Trophy and a full exemption into the US Amateur Championship, to be played at The Olympic Club (Lake Course), August 11-17, 2025. The top 5 receive Exemptions from Local Qualifying for the US Amateur in 2026.

 

EVACUATION PLAN: In the event play is suspended for a dangerous situation (lightning), players are to return to the Clubhouse.  The signal for a suspension due to a dangerous situation is one (1) prolonged horn blast, repeated.

 

CUT & STARTING TIMES FOR WEDNESDAY: Per the Notice to Competitors, the top 60 players plus ties after 36 holes will advance to the final round on Wednesday. The leaders will go at 9:30 am off #1 tee, with the highest scoring players who make the cut going at 9:30 am off #10 tee.  The approximate time for the first groups will be 8:00a but will depend upon how many players make the cut.  Players will be notified of starting time, hole and GGID by email and text after the times are posted Tuesday night.

 

POSTING OF SCORES: The MGA will post scores to GHIN for handicap purposes.

 

RULES OF PLAY

 

Play is governed by the Rules of Golf, the MGA Rules Card, Notice to Competitors and the following Local Rules. NOTE: Disregard all Local Rules printed on the local scorecard. If you need an official and one is not immediately available, you may play a second ball under Rule 20.  You should announce in advance which ball you wish to count for your score if the Rules allow.

 

GROUND UNDER REPAIR: Areas circled by white lines.

 

TEMPORARY IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS: The scoreboard and RV (Tournament Office) between the 9th and 18th greens are Temporary Immovable Obstructions. A dropping zone is provided for each hole in the event of interference.

 

OUT OF BOUNDS: Boundaries are defined by WHITE STAKES and PROPERTY FENCES.

 

PENALTY AREAS: When stakes and lines are used to mark a penalty area, the stakes identify while the lines define the edge. 

 

DROPPING ZONES: Dropping zones (DZ) have been provided as follows:

  1. Hole #7: Forward tee for a ball in the YELLOW Penalty Area.
  2. Holes #9 & 18: For interference from the Temporary Immovable Obstructions (scoreboard & RV) between the 9th and 18th greens. If the player wishes to use a DZ, they must use the DZ designated for the hole being played.

 

PACE OF PLAY: The MGA Pace of Play policy found on the Championship webpage is in effect.  Always maintain your position on the course with respect to the group in front of you. The expected pace of play is 4:35 for 18 holes.
