QUALIFYING MEMORANDUM TO PLAYERS

FORMAT/QUALIFYING PLACES: Format is 18-holes, stroke play. Contestants are competing for qualifying places and two alternate positions in the FINAL STAGE QUALIFYING for the 125th United States Amateur Golf Championship to be played August 11-17 at The Olympic Club, San Francisco, California. The number of qualifying spots at is as follows:

STARTING TIMES:  The Official Starting Times will be posted on the Qualifying webpage once complete.

 

PACE OF PLAY: The Pace of Play policy will be posted on the Qualifying webpage. 

 

PLAYOFF:  In the event of a tie for the last qualifying places, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff to determine the final qualifiers and the 1st and 2nd alternate if necessary. All announcements regarding the play-off, including the holes to be used, will be made at the Scoring Area upon completion of the qualifying round.

 

ELECTRONIC SCORING:  The official method of scoring will be electronic by use of the Golf Genius Mobile App.  Paper scorecards WILL NOT be provided to players for the purpose of scoring.  Players should review the printed and video educational information posted on the Qualifying webpage to be prepared for this process.  Also, players should make sure their mobile devices are fully charged prior to beginning play and to have charging cables for use between rounds.

FOOTWEAR:  Shoes with traditionally designed spikes (regardless of composition, i.e., ceramic, plastic, etc.) or spikes, regardless of design, comprised either entirely or partially of metal (if such metal may come in contact with the course) are prohibited during the stipulated round.  Penalty for breach of this condition: DISQUALIFICATION.

 

USGA Groove Policy – MODEL LOCAL RULE G-2:  In making a stroke, the player must use clubs that conform to the groove and punch mark specifications in the Equipment Rules that took effect on 1 January, 2010.

 

There is no penalty under this Local Rule for carrying but not making a stroke with a club which does not conform to these groove and punch mark specifications.

 

PENALTY FOR MAKING A STROKE WITH CLUB IN BREACH OF CONDITION: Disqualification.

 

EXCEPTION - Ping EYE 2 Clubs:  Ping EYE 2 irons manufactured prior to 31 March, 1990, with a groove spacing to groove width ratio of 2.3 to 1 are allowed for play under the Rules of Golf even when this Local Rule in in effect.  The player is responsible for proving when the club was manufactured.  If the player cannot do so, the club must conform to the groove and punch mark specifications that took effect on 1 January, 2010.

 

DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES:  Distance Measuring Devices are permitted in all USGA qualifying events.

 

EVACUATION PLAN:  In the event of a discontinuance of play during the qualifier, players must return to the Clubhouse for further instructions and updates.

 

PRACTICE ROUND AVAILABILITY:  Practice rounds are available.  To schedule a practice round, please contact the Golf Shop and identify yourself as a U.S. Amateur Qualifying contestant.  Practice rounds will be on a space-available basis and the rate may be limited to specific days and times.  The fee for a practice round at Dacotah Ridge is $49.  The use of a golf cart during the practice round is optional and may be extra.

 

QUALIFYING ROUND FEES:  There is no additional fee associated with the qualifying.

 

CADDIES:  Dacotah Ridge will not have caddies available.  You may bring your own caddie if you wish to use one, or you may carry your own bag or use a walking cart (including electric).

 

CARTS:  Players must not ride on any form of transportation during a stipulated round unless authorized by the Committee. 

 

SPECTATOR CARTS: Spectator carts will be permitted during the Qualifying in very limited cases.

 

COURSE SETUP: The expected course setup is as follows:

Dacotah Ridge GC – TOURNAMENT TEES (7,109 yards, Par 72, Course/Slope Ratings: 74.8/145)

 

GOLF SHOP/LOCKER ROOM/PRACTICE AREAS:  These areas will be open for player’s use during the qualifying.  Practice areas will open at least 60 minutes prior to the first starting time.

 

PERSONAL APPEARANCE:  Contestants and caddies must be neat in appearance.  Bermuda length shorts may be worn.  Denim and blue jeans, short shorts, tee shirts, and tank tops are prohibited.  Shirts must have collars.  The Committee will decide whether this requirement has been met.  The dress code applies to the caddies as well as the players.  A player will be held responsible for the appearance of his caddie.

 

CELL PHONE POLICY:  The use of devices for the purpose of telecommunications is not permitted on the course during the qualifying except in the event of an emergency or to call for an official.

 

FOOD & BEVERAGE SERVICE / DRINKING WATER:  There will be food and beverage service available from the Clubhouse during the qualifying.  All food and beverage will be at the player’s expense.  Bottled water will be available at different locations on each course.  Lunch service will be available.
