Qualifying Memorandum to Players

FORMAT/QUALIFYING PLACES: Format is 18-holes, stroke play.
Players will compete for 2 qualifying places and two alternate positions in the 70th United States Senior Amateur Championship to be played August 23-28 at Oak Hills Country Club, San Antonio, Texas.
STARTING TIMES: The Official Starting Times are posted on the Qualifying webpage.
PLAYOFF: In the event of a tie for the last qualifying places, there will be a hole-by-hole playoff to determine the final qualifiers and the 1st and 2nd alternate if necessary. All announcements regarding the play-off, including the holes to be used, will be made at the public scoreboard upon completion of the qualifying round.
GROOVES: The players’ clubs must conform to the grooves and punch mark specifications in The Rules of Golf that are effective from January 1, 2010. Please refer to the Qualifying webpage for more detailed information.
DIGITAL SCORING: Digital scoring using the Golf Genius Digital Scoring App will be the official method of scoring. Players should be aware of the process and have their phones charged prior to the round. Your personal GGID will be sent via email and text message a day or two prior to the qualifying.
DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES: Distance Measuring Devices and GPS apps are permitted in any USGA qualifying. However, such devices or apps must measure distance only. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., elevation changes, wind speed, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 4.3.”
EVACUATION PLAN: In the event of a discontinuance of play during the qualifier, players must return to the Clubhouse for further Instructions and updates.
PACE OF PLAY: The Pace of Play policy for each Qualifying will be posted on the Qualifying webpage.
PRACTICE ROUND AVAILABILITY: To schedule a practice round, please contact PGA General Manager Todd Kueppers, Todd@foresthillsgc.com, and identify yourself as a U.S. Senior Amateur Qualifying contestant. Practice rounds are available any time Tuesday-Friday and after 11 am on weekends. The fee for a practice round is $59 (+ cart). Practice rounds are limited to players only and one per player.
QUALIFYING ROUND FEES: There is no additional fee associated with the qualifying.

GOLF SHOP/LOCKER ROOM/PRACTICE AREAS: These areas will be open for player’s use during the qualifying. Practice areas will open at least 60 minutes prior to the first starting time.
CADDIES: Forest Hills will not have caddies available. You must bring your own caddie if you wish to use one, or you may carry your own bag or use a non-motorized walking cart.
CARTS: The use of motorized riding carts is permitted during all phases of the Championship. EFFECTIVE SINCE 2018 … The “one-seat” policy. Players and caddies are permitted to ride in a golf cart, but only one of the two may be riding in any cart at the same time. Only two carts are permitted per group. Players will be expected to share a cart if there is an open seat. (Only one cart if there are only two players riding.) The cost of the cart is the player's expense and must be paid in the Golf Shop prior to starting play.
SPECTATOR CARTS: Spectator carts will be permitted during the Qualifying only in very limited cases.
PERSONAL APPEARANCE: Contestants and caddies must be neat in appearance. Bermuda length shorts may be worn. Denim and blue jeans, short shorts, tee shirts, and tank tops are prohibited. Shirts must have collars. The Committee will decide whether this requirement has been met. The dress code applies to the caddies as well as the players. A player will be held responsible for the appearance of his caddie.
CELL PHONE POLICY: The use of telecommunications devices is not permitted on the course during the qualifying.
FOOD & BEVERAGE SERVICE / DRINKING WATER: Limited food and beverage service will be available from the Clubhouse during the qualifying. All food and beverages will be at the player’s expense. In addition, there will be water located every 2-3 holes.
