History of the Curtis Bowl Scotch Tournament: 

The first Curtis Bowl Scotch Tournament was played at Essex Country Club in 1956 and won by the team of H F Prunaret & J W Nicolls. This year’s defending champions are the team of Mary Jane Wagner & Barb Hecimovich.

 

Format:

  • One partner must play first from the teeing area of all odd numbered holes, while the other partner must play first on all even numbered holes. After the side’s first stroke from the teeing area, the partners must alternate strokes for the rest of the hole.
  • 18 holes of Scotch format
  • Gross and Net competition

 

Handicaps: 50% of combined team handicaps as of May 14, 2025.  Players will be limited to a 36 Playing Handicap.

 

Tees: Mass Golf Red Tees from ~4,967 yards.

 

Starting Times: Refer to pairings and starting hole assignments.

 

11:00 AM Shotgun Time                                                 

10:45 AM – All golfers to be ready at their carts.                                 

 

Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius app. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome and enter scores.

 

Practice Areas: The driving range, chipping area and putting green will be accessible before play beginning at 9:00 a.m.

 

Pace of Play:  Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.

 

Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature.

 

AwardsThe Curtis Bowl Scotch has a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners.  All ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA recommended method. Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at The Ridge Club.

 

Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of GolfLocal Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.

 

Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.

 

Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.

 

Bathrooms: Bathrooms are located in the clubhouse, between holes 4/5 and 15/16. The code is 514.

 

Water and Snacks: There is a bubbler on holes 15/16Snacks will be available at registration.

 

Food and Beverage: The beverage cart will be available prior to the shotgun from 10-11 am to purchase snacks and alcoholic beverages. Boxed lunches will be available at registration to take with you during the shotgun. The pavilion bar will be open after play starting at 3 pm. Card is the preferred form of payment.

 

Additional Information: Practice rounds are only available on Tuesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 29 after 1:00 PM on a space available basis. The cost for a practice round is $80 per player. Please call the golf shop to book at: 508-428-6804.
