History of the Sheeran Modified Scotch: The Sheeran Trophy originated in 1959 and was renamed in 1972 when its trophy was presented by Dr. and Mrs. Paul Sheeran of Winchester Country Club.

 

Format:

  • 18 holes of Modified Scotch format (commonly known as Modified Foursomes)
  • Both golfers hit their tee shot and select which drive they want to use. Then they play alternate shots into the hole. 
  • Gross and Net Divisions
  • 60% of lower handicap plus 40% of higher handicap for team handicap

 

Handicaps: Amateur golfer teams who are legally married or in a legal domestic partnership and each have an active Mass Golf Membership with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 24.0 (as determined by the Handicap Revision on the date of entry)

 

Tees: Women will be playing from Mass Golf red tee markers from ~5,500 yards

          Men will play from the Mass Golf blue tee markers from ~6,400 yards

 

Starting Time: 9:30 a.m. Shotgun Start

 

Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius app. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome and enter scores.

 

Practice Areas: The driving range, chipping area and putting green will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m.

 

Pace of Play:  Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.

 

Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature.

 

AwardsThe Sheeran Modified Scotch has a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners. Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at Black Rock Country Club Club.

 

Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.

 

Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.

 

Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.

 

Bathrooms: Locker rooms are available in the clubhouse and on-course restrooms are located on 5 and 14.

 

Water on course: Refillable water stations will be available on 1, 5, 10, and 14. Water bottles will also be available.

 

Food and Beverage: The halfway house will be open to purchase snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages beginning at 9:00 a.m., CASH & CREDIT ACCEPTED. A lunch buffet will be served in the upstairs function room with alcoholic beverages available for purchase following the round. Lunch will include:

  • Butternut Squash Soup
  • Fall Harvest Salad- Roasted Butternut Squash, Mixed Little Leaf Lettuce, Pumpkin Seeds, Dried Cranberries, Sliced Apples, Crumbled Goat Cheese
  • Baby Wedge Salad- Crumbled Blue, Candied Pecans, Fried Onions, Cherry Tomatoes, Applewood Smoked Bacon
  • Chicken Piccata- pan seared chicken, lemon caper butter sauce with fresh herbs
  • Char Broiled Faroe Island Salmon- Cucumber Dill Sauce, Assorted Roasted Vegetables
  • Lemon Herb Roasted Russian Fingerling Potatoes
  • Miniature Assorted Desserts

 

Additional Information: There will not be any practice rounds available. 

 

DECISIONS BY THE COMMITTEE IN ATTENDANCE ARE FINAL.
