TERMS OF THE COMPETITION



ELIGIBILITY

This championship is open to junior boys and girls who meet the following requirements:

  • Membership: Reside within the SDGA territory (Onondaga, Cortland, Cayuga, Madison, Oswego, Oneida, Seneca, Tompkins, and Wayne County east of Route 14)

  • Age: Be 18 or younger as of July 22, 2025.

  • USGA Handicap Index: Have an active GHIN Handicap with the following limits placed for each division - juniors are eligible for a free USGA/GHIN Handicap Index by joining the NYSGA eClub of Central New York.

    • Boys 18U: 15.0 max

    • Boys 14U: 22.0 max

    • Girls 18U: 22.0 max

 

  • Note: Any 14U that has a H.I. of 5.0 or less has the option to play in the 18U division. To do so email jcorcoran@nysga.org by entry the entry deadline (Wednesday, July 16, 2025).  

 

ENTRIES, DEADLINE, AND WITHDRAWALS

  • Entries: An entry must be submitted online prior to the deadline. Late entries will not be accepted, regardless of reason.

  • Entry Fee: $0. This is free to all players courtesy of donations from Greg Natale and other Syracuse area golfers (thank you!).

  • Deadline: Entries must be received prior to the deadline (12PM EST on Wednesday, July 17, 2025). Late entries will not be accepted, regardless of reason.

  • Withdrawals: If a player needs to withdraw, please contact jcorcoran@nysga.org as soon as possible. 

 

FORMAT, DIVISIONS & TEES

The format the Boys' and Girls' 18U divisions is 54-holes at stroke play, played in 18-hole rounds over three days with a cut after 36-holes to approximately half the field. The format of the Boys 14U division is 36-holes played over the first two days . Players compete in the following divisions from the listed tees:

  • Boys' 18U (ages 15-18)

    • Blue Tees (~6,400 yards)

  • Boys' 14U (ages 14 & under)

    • Gold Tees (~5,900 yards)

  • Girls' 18U (ages 18 & under)

    • Red Tees (~5,100 yards)

CUT

The fields of the Boys' 18U divisions will be cut to roughly half the field size after Round 2. There is no cut in the Girls' 18U or Boys' 14U divisions.

FIELD SIZE AND SELECTION PROCESS
The field size for each division is listed below. If a division has more entries than stated, the field will be selected by the player's with the lowest Handicap Index as of the entry close date. If a division does not reach this limit, other division sizes may be increased.

  • Boys' 18U: 36 players

  • Boys' 14U: 12 players

  • Girls' 18U: 18 players

 

RANKINGS

The 2025 SDGA Junior Classic is ranked by World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)Junior Golf Scoreboard & Team New York.

 

                                                           

 

 

EXEMPTIONS
The top-3 finishers & ties of the Boys' 18U will be exempt into the 2026 NYS Boys' 18U Junior Amateur Championship.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

RULES

All play will be governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. Players will be provided a "Notice to Players" rules sheet containing local rules and conditions. The SDGA will provide access to a certified USGA Rules Official to provide rulings and answer questions.  

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

  • Tuesday, July 22 // Round 1 // Tee Times: 7:30AM-9:30AM
  • Wednesday, July 23 // Round 2 // Tee Times: 7:30AM-9:30AM
  • Thursday, July 24 // Round 3 // Tee Times: 7:30AM-9:00AM

 

CADDIES

The use of caddies is permitted, but they must be under 21-years-old and may not be related to the player.

 

FOOD & BEVERAGE

There are no meals included, players may purchase food and beverages using cash/credit at Bellevue's halfway house.

 

GOLF CARTS & PUSH CARTS

The use of a golf cart is not permitted. Push carts are approved.

 

RANGE

Access to the range is provided compliments of Bellevue.

 

TEE GIFTS
A tee gift will be given to every players in each division.

 

AWARDS

Trophies will be awarded to the winners. Pro shop credit ($2,000) will be awarded out to the top finishers in each division.
