The 2016 season is upon us. Seeing Speith play the 12th like he belonged in our league yesterday has surely got you all feeling better about your games. So I though it would be appropriate to get registration sorted out for the 2016 season. If you were in the league in the past you should have a good idea of how this works, if not see the bottom of the email for more details about the league. Also please forward this to anyone who you think may be interested.
Last year we had a great season and keeping the venue consistent at Royal Woodbine seemed to really work well. It also helped us get out for some beer and wings afterwards which was one of the main objectives of the league.
I've spoke to most of you about changes to the format/scheduling for this year and have come up with a few changes and I am still open to more suggestions before the season starts. Below are some of the changes but before that just follow the instructions to confirm your participation this year.
*NEW* If you are not sure or know that your attendance for the weekly rounds will be low but still would like to be kept in the loop and come when you can (including weekend Majors) you can register as a 'Non-Competitive' golfer but you will not be eligible for any points or winnings. The cost is $50 for this.
1) send email transfer for $50 or $100 to edwardgobran@gmail.com to cover the costs of the website/app and the trophies/cash prize at end of season
2) email me to confirm which date you prefer (Tuesday/Thursday, more on this below) and that this is the email address you would like to use for the season to get your tee time booking request/confirms to.
League website is http://2016tnhl.golfleaguegenius.com and contains more info about rules etc.
Format for 2016
- as of now the league will take place on TUESDAY with Thursday being a potential for those who can't make/miss Tuesday. What this means is that I have prebooked almost every Tuesday with Royal Woodbine for us, for those that play on Thursday they will need tocoordinate and book their round so long as they have at least 3 players. That said, I am waiting to see how many people we have registered and if we can get enough people to register who want Thursday I will contact the course and coordinate the tee times for that day as well.
- Tuesday rounds will start between 5-6pm. If guys want to go early to get more golf in they are free to but must come back to 1st tee to tee off with everyone in their tee time and that will be the 9 holes that will count. If you want to do this it is up to you to check with the course to make sure they are ok with it and check the additional costs
- Thursday rounds can be anytime you want to coordinate but only the front 9 will count if you happen to play 18.
- Tuesday course will be Royal Woodbine for $45 including a cart for twillight so as many holes as we can get in. There are a few days that Royal Woodbine has tournaments so I will keep you posted on the alternate course. I am open to suggestions as usual.
- We are tentitively set to start Tuesday May 3rd weather dependant of course.
- This year I have also gotten feedback that 4 weekend rounds (Majors) were good but more notice ahead of time would be better so I will try to have them booked ~4 weeks ahead of time.
- Keep in mind that if you cannot make any Saturdays but can make the Tuesday/Thursdays or vice versa, that's fine. We will not be as strict about attendence, as the participation points should sort that out. The idea once again is to get as many people out as possible. Also, if you don't want to commit but still want to be kept in the loop to come out ocassionally there is an option to register as a 'Non-competitor' so that you will still get all of the emails and invites but your score won't count for the tourney/league.
Other Housekeeping Items:
- I will start a new whatsapp group once I hear back from everyone.
- download the app if you have deleted it or if you are new. It's "Golf Genius"
- try to respond without follow up as much as possible to make it easier on me
- let me know if you have any questions or suggestions to make this league better or run smoother
- highest score will be double par again except for Par 3s where 7 will be the max (if Speith can get a 7 so can we).
Other info about league and scoring for those new to the league:
- Weekday rounds are 9 holes
- Weekend rounds (Majors) are 18 holes
- Scores are handicap adjusted so everyone has a chance to win (those with higher handicaps actually tend to have an even better chance.)
- Those who are new to the league and do not have a handicap will be assigned one that will calibrate each week based on their results.
- Participation points are awarded to encourage attendance
- the top 5 of each week get additional points
- at the end of the season the points will be reset based on your standing and a Fedex Cup style of playoffs will determine the winner. Top 3 will get money winnings
- all of the registration and scoring is done through the app which will allow you to track your score LIVE during the competition.
If you have any questions let me know and I can clear it up.
