The NYSGA championship volunteer program provides a unique opportunity to get involved in the 2025 NYS Boys' & Girls' Junior Amateur Championship, to help players and make it feel like they're playing in a professional event! There are three volunteer roles available: spotting, registration, and live scoring. Below is a brief description of each role:

SPOTTERS
This is the most important volunteer role and requires the most club volunteers, offering a unique experience that helps save players from penalty strokes and keeps play moving. Spotting volunteers work on the golf course to support and protect players, by (1) helping search for golf balls in fescue/woods, (2) communicate with players - via hand signals - so they can make informed decisions about their play, and (3) stopping groups from playing to protect players in blind areas. NYSGA Rules Officials on the course work directly with spotters so they always have quick access to a strong support system.

PLAYER REGISTRATION
These volunteers work directly with NYSGA staff at the registration tent to (1) welcome players, caddies and spectators, (2) answer questions about the club, (3) assign caddie bibs, and (4) distribute player tee gifts.

LIVE SCORERS
Walk with leader groups during the final round to enter their scores into the Golf Genius mobile app. These volunteers must be able to comfortably walk 18-holes while keeping track of scores for each player, have a strong golf background, and be confident in the use of a smartphone. These volunteers must not interact with or disrupt players - beyond what is required, such as confirming uncertain hole scores, to avoid negatively impacting their play.

MEDICAL
If you have a medical background please consider volunteering in this role, you will help provide medical assistance to players while being on the golf course waiting to be called for support.
Types of medical assistance that have been required in the past include dispensing OTC medications, providing bandaids/medical tape, and assisting with people dealing with heatstroke symptoms. The NYSGA employs a custom Medical & Emergency Action Plan (MEAP).

VOLUNTEER SUPPORT
The NYSGA understands that club volunteers must feel comfortable in their role to be successful and, most importantly, to have a terrific experience.

  • Gifts: All club volunteers will be gifted a complimentary hat with the championship logo.
  • Training: The NYSGA will conduct an in-person training seminar to review each volunteer role's responsibility and answer any questions. This presentation will be broadcast live via ZOOM for those unable to attend and a recording will be posted on this website to be watched at a later time.
  • Support: All club volunteers are assigned to an NYSGA official while working to do one final review of their role and to have help available right when it is needed.
