Some fun points of interest and things to do:

 

  • St. Andrew’s Beach Park Observation Deck to view Bottlenose Dolphins
  • Glory Beach Park:  Boardwalk built for filming of “Glory” to get actors to the beach
  • Northeastern tip of Island:  where Season 7, Episode 6 of “Walking Dead” was filmed (woman washes up on beach and a group of isolationists find her).
  • “Legend of Bagger Vance” featured the Jekyll Island Club Resort
  • San Souci house (in Historic District):  means “worry free” in French and was one of the nation’s first condos.  Completed in 1896, abandoned in WWII due to foreign submarine activity.
  • Catch the specter of financier J.P. Morgan and catch the scent of cigar smoke at SanSouci, where he is said to smoke on the balcony of his former residence on the middle floor.
  • The Wanderer Memory Trail at St. Andrew’s Beach Park: Panels tell story of the “Wanderer”, the last ship to bring enslaved Africans to Georgia in 1858.
  • Horton House/DuBignon Cemetary:  home where the owner and crew of the “Wanderer” sought aid after landing.  The DuBignon family owned Jekyll Island and  was part of the “Wanderer” conspiracy.
  • Driftwood Beach:  a natural sculpture garden scattered with the bones of oak trees.
  • Southern Dunes Beach Park:  serene beach with boardwalk connecting parking area to beach.
