BEE CAVE, Texas — Nine combined-score birdies and just one individual bogey moved the Arizona teammates straight to the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the 39th Trans-Mississippi Four-Ball Championship at Spanish Oaks Golf Club Tuesday.

After finishing a stroke behind the lead after day-one, Adam Walicki of Phoenix and his teammate Bryan Hoops of Chandler, Arizona soared in their second round, carding a 9-under 62 to place them in first with a 15-under 127 total score heading into the final round Wednesday.

Teammates Josh Swanson of Austin and Creighton Honeck of Bee Cave moved into the second spot in the Mid-Amateur division, finishing with a 9-under 133 after two days. Two teams are tied at third at 7-under 135:  RW McDonald/Harwell and round-one leaders Nelson/Hanson.

An impressive and rare double-eagle was holed on the par-5 eighth by Spanish Oaks member and Bee Cave resident William Douglas.  After his approach shot, Douglas’ teammate, caddie and competitors did not see the ball roll in the cup, and were surprised and thrilled when they walked onto the green.

Still leading the Senior division are Lawrence Field of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Steven Hudson of Vestavia Hills, Alabama.  Field/Hudson shot a solid 4-under 67 to bring them to 12-under 130 on the tournament.  Their lead improves to a comfortable eight strokes over three teams tied for the second spot with two-day totals amounting to 4-under 138:  Kilby/Nunez, Ellis/Cornelia and Corson/Lohner.

California teammates Dave Sheff of Dana Point and Rich Tolly of Laguna Niguel remain at the top of the Super Senior division after shooting a 6-under 65 round, putting them at a two-day 12-under 130 score. Sheff/Tolly’s lead grew to seven strokes heading into Wednesday’s final round, as Steven Hakes of San Diego and Douglas Pool of Las Vegas moved into second with a two-day 5-under 137 total.  Two teams are tied for the third position at 4-under: Chester/Gatti and Goode/McBee.

The field was cut after the second round to 50 teams: 20 Mid-Amateur, 20 Senior and 10 Super Senior.

Wednesday’s final round begins at 8 a.m. off No. 1 and 10 tees.  For more information and the leaderboard for the Trans-Miss Four-Ball Championship, click here.
