This is a listing of the various golf groups that play at Big Canoe. If you have any questions about any of these groups contact the pro shop.

 

MGA (Men's Golf Association) - This organization is open to all Big Canoe Men Golfers. It organizes all the men's golf tournaments held each year including the regular and seniors club championship, the Member - Member Tournament, the Member-Guest tournament etc. There are a total of 14 MGA tournaments.

 

Players Group - This group plays Fridays at 11:00 a.m. and Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. It is made up of low to medium handicappers (0 - 18) and is open to anyone interested in playing at these times. Handicaps are required. The formats played vary from individual to team events which are determined on the day of play. The number of players in this group is approximately 70.

 

Regulars - This group is similar to the Players except they play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Handicaps are in the 0 - 36 range and they play a Modified Stableford format. Each month one player is designated the "Cat Herder" who is responsible for organizing the play on each day for that month. The number of members in this group is approximately 110.

 

Commissioners - this group plays 18 holes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Handicaps range from 11 to 30+. The format is usually a play-your-own-ball modified stableford team competition, with the exception of the first Thursday of the month which is a scramble or shamble team competition. Requirements are to maintain a GHIN handicap and a willingness to serve as the organizer/herder for either the Tuesday or Thursday outings for one month during the year. There are approximately 50 players in this group.

 

Aces - This group is open to all Big Canoe Golfers regardless of skill levels who want to play 9 holes of social golf on Wednesdays. They play a scramble format and handicaps are not required. There are 80 plus players in this group.
