So you want to be a Tournament Volunteer?

 

People choose to become a Tournament Volunteer for many reasons, the most common of which is a desire to give back to golf. Some volunteers are experienced tournament players, while some have not played in a tournament. No matter the reason, the MGA is excited to have you join us! The MGA will take you where and as you are; that is, you do not have to have previous experience or be an expert on the Rules of Golf. All you need is the desire to share your time, talents and passion for golf, along with a customer-service mindset aimed at helping our players have the best experience possible and making the MGA events "the absolute best championships in the state!"

 

If you are interested in becoming an MGA Tournament Volunteer, you will need to register to be part of the "MGA Tournament Volunteer League" by clicking the blue button in the left margin of the Homepage under the MGA logo and then complete the form. Your application will be "Pending" until an MGA Rules and Competitions Staff Member reviews it. Once reviewed, they will contact you with more information.

 

Once you are approved, you will need to attend a Tournament Volunteer Orientation. They will be held both in-person as well as virtually. The schedule will be listed here once it is finalized. The Orientation lasts 1.5-2.0 hours and will cover the basics of becoming a volunteer, including the following:

  • Expectations you might have of the MGA
  • Expectations the MGA will have of you
  • A day in the life of a Volunteer (at a tournament)
  • The types of jobs and responsibilities to which you may be assigned
  • The benefits of volunteering

 

Once you get started, you may have an interest in learning more about the Rules of Golf by participating in some of the education programs offered by the MGA. Be sure to check out the offerings under the "Rules/Resources" dropdown menu above.
