2019 QUEST FOR THE COULEE CUP
MINOT COUNTRY CLUB MEN’S DAY HANDBOOK
This information will give you a complete rundown on how the season-long Wednesday Men’s Day Events and the 2019 Quest for the Coulee Cup will work. Please keep in mind this information applies ONLY to Wednesday Men’s Day Golf Events.
You can make Men’s Day tee times any time after 11:00 AM. You will sign-up for events and skins games in the golf shop prior to teeing off. Guests are more than welcome to compete in the Men’s Day weekly games. Be sure that your guest has an established and verifiable handicap. Guests without handicaps can compete with a scratch handicap. Guests are unable to qualify for the King of the Coulee Cup Shootout 24-man field. You may put together your own foursome each Wednesday. ALL PRIZE MONEY WILL BE PAID OUT IN GOLF SHOP CREDIT!
RULES OF GOLF: All U.S.G.A. Rules of Golf apply to Men’s Club events. The fescue is to be played as a lateral hazard for our regular Wednesday Men’s Day events. If you lose a ball in the tall grass, try and find the nearest point that your ball crossed into native grass and you may take 2-club length relief from that spot with a 1-shot penalty. There are NO “gimmies”. If you do pick-up then you are no longer eligible for the individual gross or net games and you take an X on that hole for the team game being played. You still must record a score for handicap purposes according to the USGA handicapping procedures by using equitable stroke control. SCORES WILL BE POSTED BY THE GOLF SHOP STAFF IF YOU SIGN UP FOR ANY OF THE DAILY GAMES ... DO NOT POST YOUR OWN WEDNESDAY SCORES UNLESS YOU DO NOT PLAY IN ANY OF THE DAILY GAMES!!! MEN’S DAY SCORES WILL NOT BE POSTED AS “T” SCORES.
BLIND DRAW: Players will be paired together for SCORING PURPOSES by BLIND DRAW. In addition to the team game, there is always an Individual Low Gross and Low Net competition. This will keep everyone honest when playing a team game format that may not count every hole.
What exactly is a Blind Draw? Each golfer will go out and play within their foursome, and while you are on the course, the Golf Professional Staff will have the Tournament System choose random 2-player teams. When you turn-in your scorecard to the Golf Shop upon completion of your round, your individual scores will be matched up with your random partner’s scores producing your team score. The blind draw format is NET ONLY.
ENTRY FEES: Entry fee for Blind Draw format is $5. Your entry fee will be charged to your club account. Entry fee for low gross and low net is $5 each and will be charged to your club account.
SKINS GAMES: Each Men’s Day will feature an optional $5 gross skins game and $5 net skins game. Skins game entry will be charged to your club account.
The NET skins game allows a maximum handicap of 18 (you will receive your full handicap for all individual and team competitions – the maximum handicap is 27). Skins will be paid out in golf shop credit.
If there is no true skin out for the week the pot will carry over to the next week’s event.
DEUCE POT: There will be a $5 optional deuce pot. Any player who makes a 2 will split this pot. Deuce Pot entry will be charged to your club account. This is gross only and will be paid out in golf shop credit.
CLOSEST TO THE PINS: There will be an optional $5 closest to the pin contest on all five par 3’s. The Closest To The Pins entry will be charged to your club account. The five winners will split this pot and will be paid out in golf shop credit.
TIEBREAKERS AND CREDIT EARNED: All awards will be paid out in Golf Shop Credit. The golf shop will keep track of your earnings and purchases in a credit book kept at the golf shop counter. Your guest’s earnings will also be kept in the member credit book.
Ties will NOT be broken for Men’s Day events. In the event of a tie, the winnings will be split equally among the participants involved.
PAYOUTS: We will be paying out 33% of the field in the blind draw and low gross and low net formats. 5% of each week’s total pot will go into the King of the Coulee Cup Shootout prize fund.
HANDICAPS AND TEES: Your course handicap will be used for every Men’s Day event. All play will be from the BLUE TEES. Senior golfers, 50 and over, may play from the White Tees with a handicap reduction of three strokes from their Blue Tee Handicap. Please let the golf shop know if you played the White Tees when you turn in your scorecard. The maximum Men’s handicap for any Men’s Day Golf League Event is 27. Maximum handicap for all skins games is 18.
Upon completion of play turn your scorecards into the golf shop. There should be only one scorecard turned in for each group and both first and last names MUST be on the card. If you decide to play bonus holes, turn your card in before continuing on with your fun.
MONEY LIST: Keep an eye on the Money List throughout the season. This is an 18 week season starting on May 1st and ending on September 4th. Your tournament earnings are tracked and posted on clubhouse bulletin boards. Tournament earnings from the MCC Member/Guest and MCC Member/Member will also count for the King of the Coulee Cup Money List. After the final Men’s Day on September 4th, the top 24 on the money list are invited to the KING OF THE COULEE CUP SHOOTOUT on Saturday, September 14th. If a player in the top 24 cannot attend, the alternate list starts with 25th place.
KING OF THE COULEE CUP SHOOTOUT: The shootout will be held on September 14th starting at 3 pm. We will be using handicaps for the shootout. Play will be from the blue tees. Format for shootout subject to change.
The 8 highest handicap players will play hole #1 with the top four advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The middle 8 handicap players will play hole #1 with the top four advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The 8 lowest handicap players will play hole #1 with the top four advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The 6 highest handicap players on the money list advancing will play #2 with 3 players advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The 6 lowest handicap players on the money list advancing will play #2 with 3 players advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The final 6 players advancing will play #3 with 5 players advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The final 5 players advancing will play #4 with 4 players advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The final 4 players advancing will play #5 with 3 players advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The final 3 players advancing will play #6 with 2 players advancing. (Ties will be broken by a chip-off)
The final 2 players advancing will play on until we have a champion. (No more chip-offs)
