Member Member Rules of Play
Teams will be divided into flights based on the USGA index (The maximum allowable course handicap differential between team members is 12. Team members can have more than a 12 stroke differential but the higher handicapped teammate will have their handicap reduced to within 12 strokes of his partner.)
*Each team will play five 9-hole matches against the other teams in the flight using a best ball match play format. There will be three matches on Saturday with tee-time starts at 7:30-9:20, 10:10-12:00 and 1:00-2:50 and two matches on Sunday with tee-time starts at 7:30-9:20 and 10:10-12:00.
Scoring. A total of 10 points will be awarded for each 9-hole match as follows:
1 point for winning a hole ½ point for tying a hole
1 point for winning a match ½ point for tying a match
The two teams with the most accumulated points (and ties) within each flight will qualify for the Final 9.
Handicaps. Indexes from Tuesday the week of Member Member will be used for the event. Handicap strokes will be played off the low player in the group and will be assigned as listed on Golf Genius. Half strokes will be in affect.
Tee Assignments. All Players will play from their “Default Tee” for the entire tournament.
Pace of Play. While each match will consist of the full nine holes to allow each team to win the maximum points available, pace-of-play will be an important factor in the tournament. Each match is expected to be completed within 2 hours and 15 minutes. In order to maintain this pace, teams are required to concede a hole and “pick-up” when it is obvious they have lost that hole to the opposing team. Teams that unduly impede pace-of-play may be subject to a reduction in points.
Final 9
The Final 9 will be held Sunday afternoon to determine the overall Member-Member Champions. Each team will compete in a 9 hole net best ball format to determine the Member-Member champions. The team with the lowest one net best ball on the Final 9 will be crowned the Champions and take home the crystal.
Players will receive 90% of their course handicap. Handicap strokes will be assigned as they fall. Players will play the same tees as played in matches.
Ties for the 1st Place will be resolved by a sudden death playoff on the 7th hole.
We intend for all players to follow the spirit of the game and enjoy the tournament. With this in mind, please help fellow players understand the rules by pointing out infractions before strokes are taken and continuing play.
Unless otherwise noted, the rules for this tournament follow USGA Rules.
· Summer Rules are in effect except players may take 6 inches in closely mown areas.
· Ground Under Repair (GUR) maybe marked with white paint. You may take relief within one club length to the nearest point provided that it is no closer to the hole. If an area is not marked GUR and a player believes the area should be GUR, the player must discuss relief with their competitors. If there is disagreement, play two balls and bring the issue to the Rules Committee. Balls coming to rest within one club length of the center point of a drain box or valve cover may be dropped within one club length of its original lie provided that is no closer to the hole, without penalty.
· “Maintained Areas” (holes 2, 3, 4, 5, 13,) See local rules. No relief is given from the rocks along the homeowner wall left of the 10th hole. Nets along hole 17 are considered out of bounds and therefore no relief is given. Players may elect to take an unplayable lie for one penalty stroke and subject to 19.2(a), (b) or (c).
· Out of Bounds maybe indicated by white paint, or in the absence of white paint, white stakes shall be used to determine Out of Bounds. Holes that run along a road with no paint or stakes, Out of Bounds will be defined by the inside edge of the sidewalk.
· Red lines will indicate penalty areas. In the absence of red lines, red stakes shall be used to determine the boundary of the penalty area. In areas where the brush has been cut back, the penalty area boundary is defined by the old location of the brush. Hole 3 is now a yellow penalty area. The area behind hole 11 is a red penalty area.
Penalties. Any rules infraction shall be evaluated by the Rules Committee as soon as practical. A rule infraction shall be enforced by disqualifying the player in question for that hole if it is a general penalty. If the ruling is in question, play a second ball and record both scores and bring the matter to the Rules Committee as soon as practical.
Scoring. Scores will be recorded using Golf Genius. Teams will be given their GGID for the matches ahead of time. Players are encouraged to have one player from each team during each match keep score. Players are required to enter their scores immediately upon completing a hole. Failure to timely record scores is considered a violation of the Code of Conduct.
Concession of play. Any putt, shot or hole conceded by any team member speaks for the team, so please be aware of what you concede.
Order of Play. Order of play is a fundamental aspect of match play. The team with the lower seed within their flight shall play first off the first hole of the match regardless of which tee box they play from. From there, the team that wins the hole has honors on the next tee and must tee off first, regardless of which tee box they play from. During play on each hole, the team farthest from the hole shall play first. The team may play either of their balls. An opponent may cancel a player's stroke if made out of turn, but must do so promptly otherwise the stroke counts. Players may invite an opponent to play out of turn or agree to play out of turn to save time. Please be sure to place an identifiable mark on your golf balls.
Posting of Scores. All scores will be posted as competition scores.
