NOTICE TO COMPETITORS

 

US AMATEUR EXEMPTION EVENT: The Champion earns a FULL EXEMPTION into the 126th US Amateur Championship, set for August 10-16, 2026, at Merion Golf Club (Philadelphia, Penn.).  The top 5 earn LOCAL EXEMPTIONS into the Final Stage of Qualifying for the 2027 US Amateur Championship.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT: 54-holes, stroke play. (The Championship may be shortened as needed by the Committee in the event of inclement weather conditions). The Champion will be the contestant who returns the lowest 54-hole score. The Totton P. Heffelfinger Trophy will be presented to the Champion.

The low 60 scores and ties qualify for Wednesday’s play. Wednesday tee times will begin from both the 19:30 am. Tee times will be available on the MGA website Tuesday evening – www.mngolf.org.


PLAYOFF: In the event there is a tie for the Championship, there will be a playoff immediately following the conclusion of play on a hole-by-hole basis.  If necessary, the playoff will start on Hole 18 and, if still tied, continue to play Hole 18 until a Champion is decided.

 

RULES OF PLAY: The Rules of Golf, MGA Terms of Competition, this Notice to Competitors, as well as any Local Rules established specifically for the Championship will govern play. All information will be available on the Championship and/or MGA website. Players should make the effort to download and review all of the above information.

 

PACE OF PLAY: The MGA Pace of Play Policy will be in effect and strictly enforced. The Pace of Play for the Championship can be found at the Championship webpage.  Players should read the policy prior to the beginning of the Championship.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP FEE: There is an additional Championship fee of $125 for all non-exempt players in the Championship field. Qualifying players will be added to the Championship so that they may enter and pay the fee online.  Deadline for submitting the fee is 12 pm, Friday, July 18. Any player failing to pay this fee by this deadline may not be allowed to play.

 

PLAYER REGISTRATION: There will be a Player Registration and Information Tent staffed on Monday. It will be located in front of the Clubhouse on the right (East) side and will be staffed from 6:00-9:30 am and 11:00-2:30 pm daily.  Please check in each day. Players with caddies also should check in with the Caddie Registration tent adjacent to the Player Registration tent.

 

UNRL TEE GIFT: UNRL will be providing a tee gift for every player. Players will be given their gift at the Scoring Area upon completion of their round on Monday.

 

STARTING TIMES: There will be no change in starting times other than by decision of the committee due to weather conditions. Starting times for Rounds 1 & 2 will be posted on the Championship webpage (https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/5793196).

 

PRACTICE RANGE: The practice range will open at 6:30 am daily and remain open throughout each day during the Championship.  Range balls are complimentary.

 

CELL PHONE POLICY: The MGA prohibits the use of cell phones and other telecommunications devices during play for communications purposes.

 

DRESS CODE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP: AS STATED IN THE ENTRY FORM, THE DRESS CODE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. For all MGA competitions, players must be neat in appearance with respect to personal grooming and clothing. All males are required to wear shirts with collars and sleeves, and either golf slacks or Bermuda shorts, which measure no higher than 2 inches above their knees. Shirts are expected to be tucked in unless specifically designed to be worn out. Examples of attire NOT ACCEPTABLE include the following: Cargo shorts, Short shorts, athletic shorts, tennis shorts, cut-offs, jeans, jean shorts, tank tops, t-shirts and sweat pants. The Committee will decide whether this requirement has been met and will withdraw the entry of a player who does not comply. Caddies are expected to follow this dress code as well; players will be responsible for the dress of their caddies.

 

            Gentlemen are expected to remove their hats upon entering the clubhouse.

 

FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICE: Food and beverage service will be available from the Clubhouse and the Beverage Carts located at the two restroom facilities (between #4 & 6 tees and behind #13 tee/#15 green). All food and beverages, except for that found at the 1st and 10th tees, are at the player’s expense.  Food and beverages found at the 1st and 10th tees are limited to the players and caddies only. 

 

CADDIES AND CARTS: Caddies ARE PERMITTED in the Championship.  Carrying your bag is permitted, as is the use of a pull cart (including motorized), but motorized riding carts are prohibited for players during the Championship.  Participating players who have a condition covered by the ADA may apply for use of a cart. Players having caddies should check in with the Caddie Registration tent adjacent to the Player Registration tent.

 

PRIZES: Trophies will be awarded to the Champion, Runner-up, and third place finishers for their permanent possession. Merchandise prizes will be awarded as determined by the Tournament Committee.

 

POSTING SCORES: All scores from the competition will be entered in GHIN and identified as tournament (“T”) scores by the MGA. Do not enter these scores yourself.
