Crystal Lake GC Hosts 33rd Ed Perry Senior Four-Ball Net Championship
BURRILLVILLE – The Ed Perry Senior Four-Ball Net Championship is one of the most popular events on the RIGA circuit, and the players were treated to near-perfect conditions during Round 1 Tuesday at Crystal Lake Golf Club.
The team of Mark Pawlak and Peter Gay, of Triggs Memorial Golf Club, carded a 10-under 61 to lead this 36-hole championship. Gary Palmer and Michael Souza, of Segregansett CC, finished with a 9-under 62 for sole possession of second play ahead of Round 2 on Wednesday.
"Feel very good," Gay said about the round. "I was following on the leader board as we were playing, which kind of put extra pressure on us, but Mark carried us through the front nine and I finally started chipping in on the back nine."
Pawlak concurred.
"We dinged and donged," he said. "Peter has a good game, and I hit some good shots. We play well together and try to stay within ourselves."
The entire field was impressed with the conditions at Crystal Lake, which has hosted this championship several times.
"I've played all over Rhode Island this spring, and these were the best greens so far," Gay said. "There was no such thing as an easy two putt because of the slope of the greens and the speed of the greens."
