Schedule of Play/Format:

 

Stroke Play

July 6th & 7th - Stroke Play (18-holes/day)

  • The low 32 players will qualify for Match Play beginning on Wednesday, July 8th. 
  • Any ties for the final match play qualifying place(s) will be determined by a hole-by-hole playoff, if needed on July 8th. 

 

Match Play

July 8th - Round of 32 (AM) and Round of 16 (PM).

July 9th - Quarterfinals (AM) and Semifinals (PM).

July 10th - Finals (36-holes)

 

Rules of Play: The 2023 Rules of Golf are in effect and are supplemented by the Mass Golf Hard Card. The Committee will provide any additional Local Rules needed at the Championship sites. It is the individual player’s responsibility to know the Terms of the Competition.

Golf Carts, Caddies and Pull Carts: Players may use caddies and/or pull/push carts during the Championship Proper. The use of automotive transportation is NOT permitted.

  • Any competitors interested in securing a Winchester Country Club caddie should contact Caddie Master - Mark Bezjian at (mbezjian@winchestercc.org).
  • Caddies will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • $125/day (tip included)

 

Starting Times: Can be found HERE. Please make sure to be at your starting tee at least 10 minutes prior to your starting time to ensure that all proper instructions are received from the starter.

 

  • A shuttle cart will be available form the practice putting green for player's starting from the 10th tee; please plan accordingly. It is the player's responsibility to arrive to their starting tee on time.

 

Practice Range: The practice range will be open and available at 6:30am each championship day.

 

  • Please note, the practice range is only be accessible via a Mass Golf provided shuttle bus that will be leaving from either the cart barn or the satellite parking lot (St. Eulalia Parish - 50 Ridge St. - Winchester).

 

Sunday, July 5th:

 

  • For competitors unable to take advantage of a practice round date or wanting to preview the course just ahead of the championship, competitors/caddies may WALK (no clubs or golf balls) the course after 4:00pm. 
    • The practice putting green will be available after 4:00pm. 
    • The practice range will be available after 4:00pm and will close at 7:00pm.

 

Tees/Approximate Yardage: The championship will be played at approx. 6,800 yards (blue tees), par 71.

 

Food & Beverage: Will be available for purchase throughout the event - CASH or CREDIT CARD.

  • Monday, July 6th
    • A Mass Golf sponsored lunch will be provided for all competitors from 11:00am-3:30pm.
    • Spectators, caddies, etc. may purchase lunch.
  • Tuesday, July 7th
    • An a la carte lunch menu will be available at the players expense from 11:00am-3:30pm.
    • Spectators, caddies, etc. may purchase lunch.
  • Wednesday, July 8th - Friday, July 10th
    • Mass Golf will provide lunch for all competitors and caddies throughout match play.
    • Spectators, caddies, etc. may purchase lunch.
  • Additional F&B details:
    • The 10th tee snack bar will be open each day starting at 7:00am and will close at the completion of play.
      • Breakfast options will be available at the 10th tee.
    • Bar service will be available each day.
      • Monday from 11:00am to approx. 5:00pm.
      • Tuesday - Friday from 11:00am until close.

 

Arriving to and Parking at Winchester Country Club:

  • Parking at Winchester Country Club is extremely limited.To assist with parking availability, please plan accordingly with caddies, friends, family, etc. and carpool if possible.
  • A satellite parking lot (St. Eulalia Parish - 50 Ridge St. - Winchester) will be available Monday & Tuesday for all overflow parking. 
  • Upon arriving to the club or satellite parking lot, please obey any posted signage regarding parking as well as any instructions from parking attendants.
  • Day of updates regarding parking and other arrival details will be sent via text message to the field.
  • Additional parking instructions and logistics will be emailed out prior to the championship. 

 

Locker Room: The locker room facilities will be open/available for all competitors; limited locker space will be available.

 

Prizes: The Massachusetts Cup will be presented to the Champion. The Harry B. McCracken, Jr. medal will be awarded to the stroke play medalist(s). Merchandise certificates will be awarded to the 32 match play qualifiers and are only redeemable at the host site. 

 

U.S. Amateur Exemption: This year’s Mass Golf Amateur Champion will receive an exemption into the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship - Merion Golf Club - August 10-16, (if eligible). All semifinalists in 2026 will be exempt through U.S. Amateur Local Qualifying in 2027.
