About Us
The Winchester Sports Foundation was founded in 1989 by a group of concerned Winchester parents and sports enthusiasts in response to proposed budget cuts to the Winchester High School athletic budget, including the possibility of eliminating freshman sports and instituting user fees. Today, we continue to be challenged by similar financial pressures and our mission remains as important today as it was over 35 years ago.
Through the generous donations of so many, we have focused our attention on the following goals and purposes:
- To help meet the costs of the athletic programs and expenses,
- To give financial support for the introduction of new sports programs, and
- To make sports programs accessible to all classes and to ensure an opportunity for maximum participation.
Over the past few years, with your kind support and generous donations, WSF has helped support the following :
- $100,000 towards the new turf at Knowlton stadium. This donation was made in honor of Donna Gildersleeve, a past Spirit Award winner and lifelong contributor to the Student-Athletes of Winchester
- $42,500 toward the renovation of WHS Gym, including a new wrestling room mats
- $15,000 toward supporting HUDL software for all WHS athletes
- $15,000 toward supporting Unified basketball, flag football, lacrosse and bowling teams
- $12,500 toward purchase of the movable Skillings Field Sportafence
- $11,500 for an athletic trainer cart to help provide care for our student athletes
The Foundation raises money from its Annual Charity Golf Tournament, its WSF Annual Campaign and individual and corporate donations. We hope you will consider supporting the Winchester Student Athletes by playing in our golf tournament or becoming a donor or corporate sponsor. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and all your contributions are tax-deductible. Interested in donating - Donate Here.
