History of the Curtis Bowl Scotch Tournament:
The first Curtis Bowl Scotch Tournament was played at Essex Country Club in 1956 and won by the team of H F Prunaret & J W Nicolls. This year’s defending champions are the team of Mary Jane Wagner & Barb Hecimovich.
Format:
- One partner must play first from the teeing area of all odd numbered holes, while the other partner must play first on all even numbered holes. After the side’s first stroke from the teeing area, the partners must alternate strokes for the rest of the hole.
- 18 holes of Scotch format
- Gross and Net competition
Handicaps: 50% of combined team handicaps as of May 6, 2026. Players will be limited to a 36 Playing Handicap.
Tees: Mass Golf Red Tees from ~5,120 yards.
Starting Times: Refer to pairings and starting hole assignments.
8:00 AM Shotgun Time
7:45 AM – All golfers to be ready at their carts.
Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius app. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome and enter scores.
Practice Areas: The driving range and putting green will be accessible before play beginning at 7:00 a.m.
Pace of Play: Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.
Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature.
Awards: The Curtis Bowl Scotch has a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners. All ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA recommended method. Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at Blissful Meadows Golf Club.
Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.
Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.
Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.
Bathrooms: Bathrooms are located in the clubhouse, between holes 4/5 and 13/16.
Water and Snacks: There is a variety of water jugs throughout the course. Snacks will be available at registration.
Food and Beverage: The beverage cart will be available at 8:30 am to purchase snacks and alcoholic beverages. A lunch buffet will be available to all participants after play concluded. Card and Card are accepted.
Additional Information: Practice rounds are available Monday-Friday anytime and Weekends after 2:00 PM on a space available basis. The cost for a practice round is $45 per player. Please call the golf shop to book at: 508-278-6110.
