MATCH FORMAT

The first annual USNDP Team New York vs Team Massachusetts interstate Match will take Place at Hudson National Golf Club on May 2nd & May 3rd. Athletes from both state teams will compete as sides in a Ryder Cup style Team Match Play event. Saturday's matches will consist of 18 holes of Modified Foursomes, while Sunday will consist of 18 holes of Fourball. Each team will earn a point for a match win, half point for a match half, & zero points for a match loss. The State Team with the most points after 36 holes will be declared the winner.

SATURDAY MAY 2nd

Athletes will compete in 18 holes of Modified Foursomes (Also known as Alternate Shot) - A form of play involving partners in which two partners compete as a side by playing one ball in alternating order on each hole. The modified version in effect consists of each athlete will teeing off, the side will choose the preferred tee ball, and will then play alternate shot until the side holes out.

On each hole partners must:

  • Decide which tee ball in which the side will use
  • Alternate order until the ball is holed.
  • If the side decides to play a provisional ball, it MUST be played by the partner whose turn it is to play the sides next stroke.
  • Any penalty strokes for the side do not affect the partners alternating order of play (If a ball is hit into the penalty area, the partners whose turn it is next will hit after penalty area relief is taken).

SUNDAY MAY 3rd

Athletes will compete in 18 holes of Fourball (Also known as Best Ball) - A form of play involving partners in which they compete together as a side, with each player playing their own ball.
