PACE OF PLAY POLICY

The Willow Run Pace of Play policy leaves the responsibility for maintaining the pace of play where it belongs – with you the player. If you are the first group in the field, you will be required to play each 9-hole round in 2 hours and 15 minutes. If you are a following group, keep up with the group in front of you and you will not have any pace of play issues. The preferred pace of play is 15 minutes per hole, though the officials recognize that weather conditions, the size of the field, the golf course, and the format can affect pace.

The Willow Run Pro-Am utilizes a stroke play format. Though speed of play is important, it is also imperative that you keep pace with the grouping ahead of you. If the group ahead of you is on the green, your group should be no further behind than on the teeing ground of the same hole. If at any time your grouping falls behind, you are considered to be out of position, and are in jeopardy of being penalized. There will be a Rules Official or designate present on the golf course to monitor the pace of play, but more importantly, to monitor that groups are maintaining their proper position on the golf course.

A player, or players, concerned about a slow player(s) in his group should speak with the players(s) and encourage them to play more efficiently. The concerned player may, before or after penalties are assessed, ask to have the group monitored. The individual player does not have to be identified; the request just needs to be made. At some point during the stipulated round, the group will be monitored.

At the first sign that a group has fallen out of position, a first offense warning will be issued to the entire group and all players may be subject to penalty. A second offense will result in a one-stroke penalty. A third offense will result in a two-stroke penalty, and if in breach a fourth time, the penalty shall be disqualification. Penalty strokes will be added to the score of the hole that you received the penalty. If a single player is identified as holding up the pace of play of the group, penalties may be applied to that player.

APPEALS

Players that incur pace of play penalties may appeal the ruling to the Willow Run Rules Committee.  Contact the staff person in charge in the scoring area only after the completion of the round.

  • The appeal must be made before scorecards are signed and returned.

There are only three situations that are grounds for appeal:

  • The group was delayed by the Committee
  • The player was delayed by a circumstance beyond control of a player or the group
  • The player or players were delayed by another player in the group
