Player Information: U.S. Junior Amateur & Girls' Junior Sectional Qualifying

Please see information related to U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls' Junior Sectional Qualifying on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh, PA. 
The qualifying round is 18 holes and the field is 63 players in the Boys division. The Boys division is playing for two (2) spots in the championship and two (2) alternates. 

The qualifying round is 18 holes and the field is 31 players in the Girls division. The Girls division is playing for three (3) spots in the championship and two (2) alternates.  

Please note the attached starting times and groupings, additionally starting times can be found at wpga.org in the near future.  The starting tees will be hole #1. Additional information will be distributed on the starting tees.  The practice facility will open at 6:30 AM the day of the qualifying round.

 

Locker Rooms—Individuals under the age of 19 are not permitted in the Men’s & Women’s Locker Rooms in the Shannopin clubhouse.  Competitors should report to the Boys & Girls Pool House Locker Rooms in order to use the lavatory facilities, change shoes and make any other pre/post-competition preparations.

 

Distance Measuring Devices are permitted for the qualifying round.
The “One Ball Rule” is in effect for the qualifying round.

Grooves conforming to USGA policy are required for the qualifying round.
A parent, stepparent, or guardian may NOT serve as a caddie. 

 

USGA HARD CARD

 

Format—18 holes of stroke play. Play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf.  In the event of a tie, a hole by hole playoff will take place on holes to be determined by the Committee for qualifying spots as well as alternates.

Tee Markers—The Boys course will play par 70 at roughly 6,450 yards from the USGA tee markers (approx. Shannopin Black Tee).

                         The Girls course will play par 71 at roughly 5,950 yards from the WPGA tee markers (Please see Girls Yardage Report at bottom of page).

                         Competition yardages are subject to change based on conditions.

 

Pace of Play—The maximum allowable time will be four hours and twenty minutes (4:20). The Pace of Play Policy can be found HERE, a checkpoint system will be in place for the qualifying round.

Practice— Practice round times can be scheduled by contacting the golf shop at 412-761-6377. The PGA Golf Professional is Eric Teasdale. Practice round fees are the responsibility of the player, must be pre-arranged, are at the discretion of the club and only available after 3:00 PM on scheduled days. Practice rounds for junior competitors will be at no cost walk or for a cart fee of $25 to ride. All other guests of competitors who wish to play a practice round or ride along, will be at the prevailing rates. Push carts will not be permitted during practice rounds.  Practice range balls are complimentary the morning of the competition. 

 

Transportation/Caddies— Walking is required. Shannopin has a limited number of caddies.  Club caddies will need to be arranged in advance by contacting the golf shop and are on a first come first serve basis.  Players may bring their own caddies provided they meet the USGA’s requirements—A parent, stepparent, or guardian may NOT serve as a caddie.  CADDIES MUST WALK IN PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DUTIES.  Push carts will be permitted for the competition only.  Push carts will not be permitted during practice rounds.

Food—The WPGA provides a light continental breakfast prior to the round and water on the course. All other food and beverage charges are the responsibility of the player.

Footwear—METAL CLEATS ARE PROHIBITED--PENALTY IS DISQUALIFICATION.

Lodging—Lodging of various price ranges can be found in the Ross Township or Neville Island areas.

Evacuation Plan— In the event of a suspension of play for a dangerous situation, players on holes 1,2,3,4,5,9,10, 17 & 18 should return immediately to the Clubhouse. Players on holes 6,7,8,11,12,13,14,15 & 16 should proceed to the maintenance facility near hole #11 tee.

Note: A suspension for a dangerous situation will be signaled by one prolonged air horn note. All other types of suspension will be signaled by three consecutive air horn notes, repeated. Resumption of play will be signaled by two short air horn notes, repeated.

 

Spectator Info— No spectator carts will be permitted for the qualifying round without pre-approved ADA verification. Please contact the WPGA office for ADA guidelines.

In the event a player needs to withdraw, please contact the USGA at Golf House.  Dually notifying the WPGA is appreciated.
