ABCD SHAMBLE
Please carefully read these rules before teeing off!
- Starting Times: Tournament is a shotgun start at 10:00 AM on Sunday, March 28th.
- General Rules:
- Teams will be composed of four players randomly selected in an ABCD handicap index format minimizing the total handicap spread across all teams.
- All players tee off (Pick & Shovel tees) and the team chooses the best tee shot.
- Players will play their own ball from the selected tee shot. All balls including the ball selected may be played within one club length of the balls original position, but not closer to the hole on Tee shots only. The lie conditions may NOT be improved. (e.g. a ball in a bunker, penalty area, or rough, must be played from the bunker, penalty area or rough.)
- Each player will then play his own ball from that location until the ball is holed.
- Tee shots coming to rest on the green must be played from no more than 6" from the original spot, no closer to the hole.
- Must use at least three (3) tee shots from each player.
- The best three (3) net scores on each hole will be counted. You only have to record gross scores on your scorecard. The three (3) best net score will be automatically computed when entered into the Golf Genius mobile app and will be checked following the round.
- Handicap allowance will be 80% - as marked on scorecards.
- A player may pick up when the team score on a hole cannot be improved. This is for pace of play.
- Skins: There is a team skin game. A skin is defined as the lowest three (3) total best ball net score on a hole (no ties, no carry overs).
- Closest to the Pin: Two closest to the pin contests will be held.
- Pace of Play: Since this is a shotgun start, please keep up with the group in front of you. Foursomes finishing 15 minutes more than the 4 hour 30 minute mark will be assessed a two-stroke penalty.
- Electronic scoring mandatory! We ask that you designate one person in each group to update the scores for the entire group in the USGA Tournament Management app. Both live scoring and paper scorecards are MANDATORY. Login using the GGID printed on your scorecard. Scoring is simple and fast for competitors and post round scorers. Failure to utilize the app will result in a two-stroke penalty for the team.
Note: If for some reason you do not have four players you still follow the same rules. A blind player will be picked by the system to complete your foursome. One member of each foursome should enter scores on the printed cards and in the mobile scoring app.

2-MAN BEST BALL
Please carefully read these rules before teeing off!
- Starting Times: Tee times start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 4th.
- General Rules:
- Teams will be composed of two players having a maximum playing handicap differential of eight strokes. If there is a difference of more than eight strokes, the higher handicap will be reduced.
- Players may play from the Pick & Shovel tees or Coal Car tees. Coal Car tees may be played ONLY if your combined age plus handicap index equals 75 or more. You must declare the tee you will be playing when you register. Your playing handicap will be based on your tee choice.
- Each player plays his own ball. The team score for a given hole is the best net score (gross score minus any pops marked on the scorecard). If you are out of a hole and elect to pick-up, record the score you most likely would have made. For example, if your partner has a par putt and you have a meaningless putt for a 7, you may pick it up and record either a 7 or 8 depending on how many putts it would have taken to finish the hole. Be honest. This is encouraged to speed up play!
- Swap scorecards with the other team on the first tee. Before turning in the scorecard, fill it in completely recording each player’s gross hole scores. Add up both nine-hole scores and eighteen-hole scores for both players. You may include your best net score on the card though it is not be necessary. Be sure your card is signed and attested before turning in.
- Handicaps: Each player receives 90% of playing handicap based upon his choice of tee. The higher playing handicap is capped at eight strokes above his teammate. For example, if player A’s playing handicap is 6 and player B’s playing handicap is 17, player B will have his playing handicap reduced to 14. Any player not having a handicap or a trend will play at scratch.
- Team Skins: There is a team skins game. A skin is defined as the best net team score on a hole (no ties or carryovers). The pot is divided equally between the outright winners.
- Closest to the Pin: Two closest to the pin contests will be held. This is an individual contest.
- Pace of Play: Foursomes finishing in more than 4 hours 30 minutes or more than 15 minutes behind the group in front of them will be assessed a two-stroke penalty per team. Each scorecard will have 4 hour 30 minute pace of play shown on the card.
- Electronic scoring mandatory! We ask that you designate one person in each group to update the scores for the entire group in the USGA Tournament Management app. Both live scoring and paper scorecards are MANDATORY. Login into the app using the GGID printed on your scorecard. Scoring is simple and fast for competitors and post round scorers. Failure to utilize the app will result in a two-stroke penalty for both teams.

CCMGA Choose Your Tee Rules
Please carefully read these rules before teeing off!
- Starting Times: Tee times begin at 8:00 a.mm. on Saturday, May 16th.
- IMPORTANT!!! COVID-19 Reopening Policies:
- The golf shop will NOT be open. You must call in before Saturday and pay for your round and pay for greens fees and range balls. The golf shop number is 303.666.7888
- Please refer the following link for Coal Creek reopening policies regarding COVID-19. https://www.coalcreekgolf.com/no-module-layout/124-coal-creek-covid-19-reopening-policy. No gathering will be allowed prior to or following the round. This includes on the driving range and putting green. Please follow the rules carefully so that the golf course may remain open.
- Flagsticks are not to be removed from holes. The cups in play work very well so a ball must come to rest in the hole to count.
- There are no rakes in bunkers. If a ball comes to rest in a footprint or unraked area of a bunker it may be lifted (not cleaned) and placed within one club length, no closer to the hole.
- General Rules:
- The format for the round is a low gross/low net.
- Each player plays his own ball and records each stroke made. You must play six holes from each of the TNT (back), Pick & Shovel (middle) and Coal Car (front) tees. This format is about strategy and every player will have his own. It is likely that players within the same foursome will tee off from different tees at times. If you qualify to for the Rule of 75 and typically play from the Coal Car tees, you must play six holes from each of the Pick & Shovel, Coal Car and Lantern tees.
- You must use each tee six times or suffer a two-stroke penalty per violation. If you played all eighteen from the Pick & Shovel, you would have twelve violations for twenty-four strokes. In the more likely scenario where you played seven Coal Car, six Pick & Shovel, and five TNT, that would be two violations for four strokes.
-
- There will be one scorecard per foursome. On the first tee, determine which player will keep the paper scorecard. Before turning in the scorecard, fill it in completely recording each player’s gross hole scores. Add up both nine-hole scores and eighteen-hole scores for all players. Be sure the scorecard is signed and attested before turning in. *See 3h for turning scorecard in.
- Electronic scoring mandatory! We ask that you designate one person in each group to update the scores for the entire group in either the USGA Tournament Management or the Golf Genius app. Both live scoring and paper scorecards are MANDATORY. Login into the app using the GGID printed on your scorecard. Scoring is simple and fast for competitors and post round scorers. Failure to utilize the app during the round will result in a two-stroke penalty for each player in the foursome.
-
- Flights / Handicaps: The number of flights will depend on the number of participants. Each player receives 100% of his Pick & Shovel course handicap. Any player not having a handicap, or a trend will play as scratch.
- Skins: There will be skins for each flight. A skin is defined as the best gross score on a hole (no ties or carryovers). The pot is divided equally between the total number of skins won in each flight.
- Closest to the Pin: Two closest to the pin contests will be held. This is an individual contest for all players. The pot is divided equally between two winners.
- PACE OF PLAY PENALTY: Every Group will be required to play the course in 4 hours 30 minutes OR to finish within 15 minutes of the group in front of them.
- At the end of your round, whomever kept the paper scorecard must take a picture of it and email or text it to Ken Schramm. Text can be sent to (307) 399-9487 and email can be sent to ken.schramm@hotmail.com The paper scorecard is required to verify the mobile app score entries.

Ryder Cup Rules
Please read these rules carefully before teeing off!
- Starting Times: Tee times will begin at 8:00 a.m. on both days from both Holes #1 and #10.
- IMPORTANT!!! COVID-19 Policies Until Further Notice:
- The golf shop is now open. Masks are required to go inside. Social distancing rules must still be followed. Please follow all rules carefully so that the golf course may remain open.
- Flagsticks may now be removed for putting.
- Rakes are in bunkers and a ball must now be played as it lies in the bunker. Please rake the bunkers as you depart them.
- General Rules:
- This is a 2-Man team event with four different 9-hole formats: Best Ball, Scramble, Chapman and Alternate Shot. You must play the correct format on the designated holes.
- Golfers may play from the Pick & Shovel tees or Coal Car tees. Coal Car tees may be played ONLY if your combined age plus handicap index equals 75 or more. You must declare the tee you will be playing when you register. Your playing handicap will be based on your tee choice.
- On the first tee, exchange your scorecard with the other team. Record each golfer’s gross score on each hole. Add up both nine-hole scores and eighteen-hole scores for both golfers. You may include your team scores on the card though it is not necessary. Be sure your card is signed and attested before turning in. Golf Genius will take care of the team computations.
- Saturday Formats:
- Best Ball Rules – Holes #10 through #18, Round 1, first nine holes are to be played under the best-ball net format as follows:
- Both players play their own ball and record their individual gross score for each hole in the scoring app and on score cards. The best net score will be calculated by Golf Genius. Note: if you are out of a hole and elect to pick-up, mark the score you likely would have taken on the hole. Do NOT put an “X” next for the score in Golf Genius or it will be removed from your total and an inaccurate final score recorded with GHIN.
- Scramble Rules – Holes #1 through #9, Round 1, second nine for the day are to be played as a 2-Man Scramble as follows:
- Both players tee off. Select the best ball and both players hit their second shot from there. Both balls may be placed within one club length (one putter head length on the green), no nearer the hole. However, the balls must be played from the same type of lie as the chosen ball (rough, bunker, fairway, hazard, etc.).
- Continue as above, selecting the best ball each time and playing both shots from there until the ball is holed. Record the gross score in the scoring app and on the score card.
- You must use at least two (2) tee-shots from each player.
- Sunday Rules:
- Chapman Rules – Holes #10 through #18, Round 2, first nine holes are to be played under the 2-Man Chapman format. On each hole, play is as follows:
- Both players tee off. Swap balls for the next shot - player A hits player B's ball and vice-versa. After both players have taken their second shots, choose one of the balls with which to continue and take the other ball out of play. If player A’s ball is chosen, player B hits the next shot. Continue to play alternate shot until the ball is holed. Record the gross score in the scoring app and on the scorecard.
- Note: penalty strokes do not change the order of play at any time. Add the appropriate stroke(s) and continue in the same fashion as described above.
- Alternate Shot Rules – Holes #1 through #9, Round 2, second nine holes for the day are to be played under the alternate shot format as follows:
- Select a player to tee off on hole #1. The other player on the team then plays the second shot. The players keep alternating until the ball is holed. On the next tee, the player who did not hole out on the preceding hole, tees off.
- Note: penalty shots do not change the order of play. Add the appropriate stroke(s) and continue in the same fashion as described above.
- Flights: The tournament will be flighted, and the number of flights will be determined based on the number of teams signed up.
- Handicaps:
- Best Ball: If the higher handicapped player's course handicap is more than eight strokes higher than his partner, his course handicap is adjusted downward accordingly (low hdcp + 8). Handicaps are then multiplied by 90%, divided by two (since 9 holes), and rounded to the nearest integer.
- Scramble: Team handicap is low handicap multiplied by 35% plus high handicap multiplied by 15%, divided by two (since 9 holes), and rounded to the nearest integer.
- Chapman: Team handicap is low handicap multiplied by 60% plus high handicap multiplied by 40%, divided by two (since 9 holes), and rounded to the nearest integer.
- Alternate Shot: Team handicap is average of both handicaps, divided by two (since 9 holes), and rounded to the nearest integer.
- Team Skins: There will be a separate Skins Game each day. Skins are based on the team score for a hole (net for best ball, and gross for the other three formats). The pot is divided between the skin winners.
- Closest to the Pin: Two closest to the pin contests will be held. This is an individual contest.
- Pace of Play: Foursomes not finishing within 4 hours 30 minutes and not finishing within 15 minutes of the group in front of them will be assessed a two-stroke penalty per team. Each scorecard will have 4 hour 30 minute pace of play shown on the card.
- Electronic scoring mandatory! Failure to utilize the app during the round will result in a two-stroke penalty for each team.

3-Man Fairway Scramble
Please carefully read these rules before teeing off!
- Starting Times: Tee times will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 14th.
- IMPORTANT!!! COVID-19 Policies Until Further Notice:
- The golf shop is now open. Masks are required to go inside. To continue to prepay for your green fees and range balls call 303.666.7888
- Please refer the following link for Coal Creek reopening policies regarding COVID-19. https://www.coalcreekgolf.com/no-module-layout/124-coal-creek-covid-19-reopening-policy. Please follow the rules carefully so that the golf course may remain open.
- Flagsticks are not to be removed from holes. For consistency across the field, group discretion is not an option. A ball must come to rest in the hole to count.
- There are no rakes in bunkers. If a ball comes to rest in a footprint or unraked area of a bunker it may be lifted (not cleaned) and placed within one club length, no closer to the hole.
- General Rules:
- Teams will be composed of three players and the format is a modified scramble.
- For this tournament IN PLAY is defined as a ball coming to rest in the fairway or on the green or fringe. Areas NOT in play include but may not be limited to the first cut along fairways and around greens, hazards, bunkers and unmown areas.
- All players tee off and the team chooses the best shot to play. One ball must be IN PLAY for all three players to hit the next shot. If there is not a ball IN PLAY during any series of shots, only the person who hit the ball selected may play the next shot. This continues until a ball is back IN PLAY. Example scenarios follow.
- Example 1: Players A, B and C tee off. Players A and B hit their tee shots into a hazard. Player C hits his shot up the right side of the hole and the ball comes to rest in the first (rough) cut. Player C’s ball is the only playable ball however, because it is not in the fairway Player C is the only player who may hit a second shot and the ball must be played as it lies. If Player C gets the ball back IN PLAY, all three players would get to hit a third shot.
- Example 2: Players A, B and C hit second shots into the green and none of them come to rest on the green or fringe. The team decides that Player B has a better short game so his ball is selected. Player B is the only player that gets to chip onto the green. If his next shot comes to rest on the green, all three players would then get a chance to putt.
- Example 3: Players A and B hit short drives in the fairway. Player C hits a driver 100 yards further but is in the rough. The team may decide to use Player C’s ball, even though only Player C will get to hit the next shot.
- If all three players hit balls which are determined to be Lost or Out of Bounds, the team will use USGA Local Rule e.5, take relief at the appropriate spot in the fairway within two club lengths of the edge of the fairway and all three players will be hitting the teams fourth shot.
- Players will play their own ball from the selected tee shot. All balls including the ball selected when IN PLAY may be played within one club length of the ball’s original position, but not closer to the hole on Tee shots only. If a ball not IN PLAY is chosen, it must be played untouched from its lie. (e.g. a ball in a bunker, penalty area, or rough, must be played from the bunker, penalty area or rough).
- Shots coming to rest on the green must be played from no more than 6" from the original spot, no closer to the hole.
- Each team must use at least four (4) tee shots from each player.
- Teams will receive 30% of the A Player's, 20% of the B Player's and 10% of the C Player's playing handicap which collectively will be rounded up or down to the nearest whole number for team handicap.
- Skins: There is a team skin game. A skin is defined as the lowest gross team score on a hole (no ties, no carry
overs).
- Closest to the Pin: Two closest to the pin contests will be held.
- Record your teams gross score on the paper scorecard. Before turning in the scorecard, fill it in completely and check it against the Golf Genius scores. Add up both nine-hole scores and eighteen-hole scores. Be sure the scorecard is signed and attested before turning in.
- At the end of your round the attested paper scorecards must be dropped into the wood suggestion box at the left side of the double doors outside of the pro shop. They will be picked up 30 minutes following the scheduled finish of the final group on each day of play. The paper scorecard is required to verify the mobile app score entries. Failure to turn in scorecards will result in a team disqualification.
- Pace of Play: Since this is a shotgun start, please keep up with the group in front of you. Foursomes finishing 15 minutes more than the 4 hour 30 minute mark will be assessed a two-stroke penalty.

Please carefully read these rules before teeing off!
- Starting Times: Tee times begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 22nd.
- IMPORTANT!!! COVID-19 Policies Until Further Notice:
- The golf shop is now open. Masks are required to go inside. Social distancing rules must still be followed. Please follow all rules carefully so that the golf course may remain open.
- Flagsticks are NOT to be removed from holes. For consistency across the field, group discretion is not an option. A ball MUST come to rest in the hole to count, no exceptions.
- There are no rakes in bunkers. Only when a ball comes to rest in a footprint or unraked area of a bunker, may it be lifted (not cleaned) and placed within one club length, no closer to the hole. You may not use this rule just to improve your lie or position in a bunker.
- General Rules:
- The format for the round is team total gross and net strokes.
- Each player plays his own ball and records each stroke made. Both players strokes are counted on each hole. Only gross scores need to be recorded. Golf Genius will calculate net scores based on tournament/tee settings.
- All players shall play from the Pick & Shovel tees (or Coal Car tees if you elected at sign up and your age plus handicap index equal 75 or more).
- All players will be on one scorecard. On the first tee determine who is going to keep the paper scorecard. Record the GROSS scores for each golfer on each hole. At the end of the round, add up both 9-hole scores and the 18-hole score. Check your scores, make sure the card is complete, signed and attested. Scorecards will be used in the event of any discrepancies.
Failure to utilize the app during the round will result in a two-stroke penalty for each player in the group.
- At the end of your round the attested paper scorecards must be dropped into the wood suggestion box at the left side of the double doors outside of the pro shop. They will be picked up 30 minutes following the scheduled finish of the final group on the day of play. The paper scorecard is required to verify the mobile app score entries. Failure to turn in a scorecard will result in disqualification.
- Flights / Handicaps: This event will be flighted based on the number of registered teams. Each player receives 100% of playing handicap. Any player not having a handicap, or a trend will play as scratch.
- Skins: There will be skins for each flight. A skin is defined as the best individual gross score on a hole (no ties or carryovers). The pot is divided equally between the total number of skins won in each flight.
- Closest to the Pin: Two closest to the pin contests will be held. This is an individual contest for all players. The pot is divided equally between two winners.
- Tie-Breaking: Golf Genius automatically breaks ties using the USGA (Last 9,6,3,1 holes) method. If there is no resulting winner a coin flip will determine the winner.
- Slow play penalty is in effect! Foursomes finishing in more than 4 hrs. 30 min. AND/OR more than 15 min. behind the group in front of them will be assessed a two-stroke penalty per player.
