CG Members,

Here’s an update on the club and the course in our very unusual world affairs situation. It seems that every business that we may or may not have a connection to has sent out a COVID-19 e-mail update, so I didn’t want to get left out.

Colorado Golf Association has notified us that they will bill us for GHIN handicaps effective April 30, as they normally would. If for some reason – any reason – you want a refund of your club dues, please notify me by April 25 and I will issue a full refund. Be aware that if you request a refund of club dues, your GHIN handicap account will be flipped to “Inactive” status. Starting May 1, the amount of any refund will issued on a case by case basis and will be substantially reduced. If we don’t have any substantial club season, the issue of membership dues and refunds will be addressed towards the end of the year.

CommonGround Golf Course is open with very strict rules to comply with national, state and local health and safety rules and guidelines. Specifics can be found at www.commongroundgc.com. The driving range, community putting green and chipping green are closed. The putting green is open briefly for those with the next tee time. The Par 3 is open, but there are no pins, holes or tee markers. The championship 18 and par 3 nine are all walking only – no motorized carts are available for golfers.  Food and beverage is limited to non-cash transactions on a grab-and-go basis. If you don’t have a tee time, please don’t visit the course. It is not open as a practice facility at this time.

Many inquiries have come to both the club and the course regarding CG Men’s Club activities. The Board of Directors has agreed that it would be irresponsible to host any event of any kind while a “stay at home order” is in effect by any agency that has jurisdiction over CommonGround Golf Course. Those agencies include the State of Colorado, Tri County Health Department, City of Aurora, Arapahoe County, and perhaps others. At this point, we will remain idle until further notice.  We won’t be making any decisions on the remainder of the season until we have clarity on what we can do and when we can do it.

The Member Guest event scheduled in July warrants its own note. While we hope to host some kind of big event, there is no way to know if we can host it in July. One option Dave Troyer and I discussed if we have to move the date is that we host the M/G when the Club Championship is scheduled in August, and do the CC in September, or vice versa. The main point here – don’t make any plans for any out of town visitors for a Member / Guest event until we can confirm whether we can host such an event and we can confirm specific details.

Currently the course is walking only with no motorized carts allowed. Once the stay at home orders are lifted, it’s possible that the no motorized carts policy could remain in place. At that point, we will need have a discussion on whether the club can host events with no carts considering many of our members need a cart to play due to age, injury, medical condition, disability or other reason(s). I prepared a quick survey get a sense of this. Please visit this link – Click Here – to answer two quick questions about motorized carts. (same as link above)

That’s all I can think of for now. I will work on a World Handicap System e-mail to help boil the handicap changes into something useful, as well as a general club update. Feel free to reply or email mensclub@commongroungc.com with questions, comments, observations, cat videos, or anything else.

Stay safe!
