CG Members,

This is a general update going out to all club members. For those playing in the event on Saturday, tee times and event specific information will go out tomorrow morning.

Here is the update on policies, procedures, protocols, and other general things about how we go about our business. Feel free to reply if you have questions or need any clarifications.

Our current Board of Directors are Mike Mounts, Andy Harwood, Dennis Cammack, Tristan Sanders and Jay Hanses. Dave Troyer is an ex-officio member. Reach out to any or all of us with any questions, suggestions, compliments, concerns, etc.

I will lead with discussion of changes and points of emphasis, and then I will get into reminders.

Changes to policies and procedures:

Last year we used the new USGA Local Rule regarding dropping with a two stroke penalty in the case of a lost ball in the General Area or ball out of bounds. WE ARE NO LONGER USING THAT LOCAL RULE. We are going back to traditional rules of golf that if you lose a ball, replay the shot. If you aren’t sure if you can find it, hit a provisional.

Previously we had a club policy that for players participating from the White tees, they would play to a “Double Par Max” on any hole if they chose. That policy has been rescinded.

The new policy, for ALL players, there is a Maximum Event Hole Score of 9 on any hole. If any player gets to 9 strokes taken on any hole, they can be done if they want, record a 9, and not be disqualified from the event. (This is different from Maximum Hole Score of net double bogey for World Handicap System Purposes)

We no longer offer a true opt-in-only “Championship” flight like we did in the past. (It will be an option for the Club Championship.) The first flight will have the lowest X golfers and we will break it like we do all other flights. That flight will play for mostly gross prize money, but will pay one net payout. All other flights will pay net only. If you feel strongly that you want to “play up” into the first flight, contact Tristan Sanders directly to make arrangements.

Tournament Registrations – in the past golfers have been able to register as we approach a registration deadline – typically the Friday a week before we play – and we get everyone in the event that wanted to play. It appears those days are over. A combination of increased participation by club members as a trend in recent years and the pent-up demand caused by the COVID-19 situation has caused more demand than we can accommodate. Going forward, each event will have an entry cap (new) and entries will be taken on a first-come, first served basis (same as always.) The entry deadline will still exist but will be less meaningful. Once we get more than a handful on the wait list, we will shut down registrations altogether. If you want to play in event, get registered sooner rather than later. Open and close dates of registrations as well as entry caps are in the Calendar area of Golf Genius. Automated tournament invitations will almost always go out at 6:00 am on a Sunday morning. Look in More Info for caps and flight order for tee times in the Calendar.

The Member Guest event will no longer be part of the “Points Chase.” It really is a stand-alone event, and will be easier to build and run with guests. This change will be substantially easier for the golf staff to run the event. We were trying to force the square peg of Member-Guest into the round hole of the regular club season.

I added a News Archive to the Member Portal to archive all the updates so we all have information available to us as opposed to needing to search through your e-mail.

For that matter, Dave Troyer and I have making updates and improvements to our Portal in Golf Genius, accessible from a browser on your computer or the app on your device.

Reminders:

We use the local rule regarding immovable objects near the putting surface. Think sprinkler heads. Basics:  If A) Your ball is on a closely mown area – fairway height, B) The sprinkler head is within two club lengths of the green surface AND C) Your ball is within two club lengths of the sprinkler head, then you are entitled to relief.  Find the nearest point of complete relief, then one club length, then determine your Reference Point and drop according to the drop rules. Consult the Player Handbook or USGA Rules of Golf for more details.

We use a drop zone on the left of #5, just past the left side pot bunker. If you go into the hazard left, regardless of entry point, the drop zone is an additional relief option in addition to the standard relief options. That DZ is not an option for a ball lost to right towards Hole 13.

Also for #5 with balls left in the hazard, we used to use a local rule about playing a ball in a hazard and taking relief provisionally. We do not use that local rule.

We also use Drop Zones on #6 and #12. If the DZ is not marked, you may use the red tee markers as a DZ

Pace of play policy remains unchanged. Play in 4 ½ hours or less and keep up with the group in front of you, basically. A COVID-19 adjustment will be to write the time from a cell phone on each scorecard once your group reaches the #10 tee box and again on the 17th tee box. The full policy is in the Tournament Info of our Golf Genius Portal. Or Click Here.

The CG Player Handbook is attached. Also in our Golf Genius Portal in the Club Info area. Or Click Here.
