SINGAPORE GOLF ASSOCIATION - JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
1. Background
The Junior Development Program is an extension of SGA’s Junior Squad Programme. It is aimed to build a base of junior golfers between the age of 7-12 who will undergo a structured coaching curriculum. It also acts as a feeder to the SGA Junior Squad. The Program is open to Singaporeans and Permanent Residents.
2. Objectives
2.1 Identify a talent pool of young junior golfers
2.2 Create a joint effort with Academies to grow the game of Golf in Singapore
2.3 Develop a sustainable local golfing ecosystem
2.4 Prepare junior golfers to potentially be selected for the SGA Junior Squad
3. Terms
3.1 Players will be selected on the SGA Talent Identification Day on 16 March 2020.
3.2 The Junior Development Program runs from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021.
3.3 There will be three terms of training sessions –
Term 1: 1 April 2020 to 30 June 2020;
Term 2: 1 July 2020 to 30 September 2020;
Term 3: 1 October 2020 to 31 March 2021.
3.4 Terms 1 and 2 will consist of 9 sessions of two hours each, while Term 3 will consist of 12 sessions of two hours each.
3.5 Trainings will be conducted at SGA-approved Academies across Singapore.
3.6 There will be no more than 6 juniors to one Coach during training sessions.
3.7 The Coaching Fee is S$900 each term per player.
3.8 Juniors who are recommended by Academies to be promoted to the SGA Junior Squad will be invited for an assessment conducted by the SGA National Coach.
3.9 SGA Junior Development Committee reserves the right to make the final decision on selection and promotion of Juniors.
4. SGA’s role
4.1 The following will be provided by SGA for Juniors in SGA’s Junior Development Program:
i) Training attire
ii) 3x 9-hole training/competition session per term
iii) Absorb 3x entry fee for SGA-Mandai Junior Golf Series per term
iv) Educational workshops (rules, nutrition, psychology etc)
v) Overseas Tournament exposure for Juniors who are competition ready
