 West Penn Men’s & Women’s Net Championships

South Hills Country Club in Pittsburgh, PA

 

The competition is 18 holes and the field is 40 contestants Men’s Championship and 12 in the Women’s Championship. Additional information will be distributed on the starting tee. The starting tee will be hole #1. The entry fee includes golf, cart fee, practice range fee, tee gift, locker fee, coffee, lunch, trophies to the winners and merchandise prizes to top flight finishers.

 

There are 11 teams competing in the Net Team Championship.

 

Players should report to the starting tee roughly five (5) minutes prior to their official starting time. Each player’s Handicap Index will be updated after the September 1 revision.

 

Format: 18 holes of Net Stableford Stroke Play. Please see Section 9-4b (viii), Stableford Competition, of the USGA Handicap System. Play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. Contestants in the Men’s Championship will compete for a flight championship and overall championship. Contestants in the Women’s Championship will compete for the overall championship. In the event of a tie for first place, a hole by hole playoff will take place on holes to be determined by the Committee. 

 

Tee Markers: All players in the Men’s Championship will compete from the BLUE WPGA tee markers (Approximately 6,200 yards), and all players in the Women’s Championship will play from the WHITE WPGA tee markers (Approximately 5,200 yards).

 

Practice: Practice round times can be scheduled by contacting the golf shop at 412-884-5111. Practice rounds are available on weekdays after 2:00 PM, and on weekends after 3:00 PM, based on availability. The Golf Professional is Tony Traci. Practice round fees are the responsibility of the player, must be pre-arranged, and are at the discretion of the club. Practice rounds will be at a cost of $40 including cart for contestants. Non-contestants accompanying a player for a practice round will be at a rate of $97.50.

 

Transportation/Caddies: Automotive transportation is permitted for the championship. Players may bring their own caddies if they choose. South Hills does have caddies available.  If you wish to employ a club caddie, arrangements must be made in advance by contacting the golf shop. Cart fees are included in the entry fee and no refunds are issued to players who choose to walk. Caddie expenses are the responsibility of the player. Caddies must walk in performance of their duties. No push carts are permitted for the competition.

 

Food: The WPGA provides coffee in the morning, water on the course and lunch for players only. Caddies and spectators may purchase lunch at their own expense.  All other food and beverage charges are the responsibility of the player. 

 

Footwear: METAL CLEATS ARE PROHIBITED. THE PENALTY IS DISQUALIFICATION.

 

Lodging: Lodging of various price ranges can be found in the West Mifflin area.

Pace of Play: The maximum allowable time will be four hours and twenty minutes (4:20). A pace of play checkpoint system will be in place for the competition.  The WPGA Pace of Play Policy can be found HERE.

 

Evacuation Plan—In the event of a suspension of play for a dangerous situation, players on holes 8, 9, 10 and 11 should report to the half-way house near hole #10 green.  All others players should return to the clubhouse. Note: A suspension for a dangerous situation will be signaled by one prolonged air horn note. All other types of suspension will be signaled by three consecutive air horn notes, repeated. Resumption of play will be signaled by two short air horn notes, repeated.

 

Spectator Info— No spectator carts will be permitted for the competition without pre-approved ADA verification. Please contact the WPGA office for ADA guidelines. ADA carts are based on availability.
