The Oakcreek Country Club Men’s Golf Association wants to send you and your club member teammate to the Arizona Golf Association (AGA) Club Championship as representatives of our club. The finals will be held at Seville Golf and Country Club in Gilbert, AZ, on December 7, 2020. In order to get there though, you will have to win one of the divisions of our qualifying tournament to be held starting at 12 noon on Friday, September 4, 2020. The particulars are as follows.
The AGA Club Championship is a two player scramble, divided into five divisions. The Championship Division is a Gross score scramble played at 6500+ yards. The Open Division is a Gross and Net scramble played at 6200-6500 yards. The Super Senior Division is a Gross and Net scramble played at 5600-6000 yards. Teams may consist of two men or one man and one woman. Net scores are based on a 35% handicap of the A player and a 15% handicap of the B player. Super Seniors are a team of two players over the age of 70 at the time of the semi-finals in November 2020. The semi-final qualifying round for the Championship Division will be held November 20 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa. Super Senior semi-final qualifying will be held either at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana on November 11, or Moon Valley Golf Club in Phoenix on November 30. The Open Division semi-final qualifying is, apparently, at any of those three on the said dates, or at Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park on November 12, or Arrowhead Country Club in Glendale on November 16. Except for the Championship Division, your entry form can indicate a preference for date and club.
Starting on Saturday, August 8, a sign up sheet will be posted on the Men’s Club bulletin board in the Pro Shop. You can also sign up by emailing markelder904@gmail.com. You must specify which division you are entering, Championship, Open or Senior. Championship teams will play from the Black tees. Open teams will play from the Blue tees. Senior teams will play from the White tees. Women will play from the Gold tees. Handicaps will be 35/15 for the Open and Senior divisions. Sign ups will close at 5PM on September 1. This will be strictly enforced with no exceptions. A player can only be changed after that for a serious medical issue or similar reason. There is an entry fee of $20 per team, payable when you pick up the scorecard for the tournament. Handicaps will be your handicap as of September 1 for the tees you are playing from. The game is two player scramble, six drive minimum. Teams will exchange scorecards on the first hole. Write down the gross score only for each hole. At the end, add up the gross score and subtract the team handicap, if any, to obtain the net score. In the Open and Senior Divisions there will be separate winners for Gross and Net. If one team has both the lowest Gross and Net score that team will win the Gross and the team with the second lowest Net score will win the Net. Standard tie breaking procedures will be followed. The five winning teams will share the pot.
Teams do not have to wait around to see who has won. Results will be emailed to all, along with instructions to the winners on what to do next. Entries for the semi-finals must be submitted by September 25.
If you have any questions send them to markelder904@gmail.com.
We look forward to your participation.
