2021 President’s Message

Welcome to the 2021 season of the Raccoon Creek Men’s Club (RCMC). It became apparent during 2020 that golf was a popular activity during a pandemic. The momentum continues as this year’s club registration is welcoming in numerous new members. Early returns show that we are going to have a large field for both Match Play and Challenge Coin.

A couple of years ago we tried to organize a weekly game to build camaraderie and give players an opportunity to play more golf. At the time, the mechanics of managing the times led to it not being as successful. We are going to try it again this year and utilize Golf Genius to manage the process. As the season progresses it will be an opportunity for matches to be played if there is difficulty scheduling. With player buy-in, we can also make it interesting by making it a mini-tournament with closest to the pin (CTP) and skins. In theory the tee times will follow two weekly groups and be in front of the public tee times. If the participation is consistent, we will try to get additional tee times.

This year the course, Raccoon Creek Golf Course (RCGC), has upgraded to the premium platform of Golf Genius which brings a new level of technology to the club. As witnessed by the registration process this year. Additionally, we will have living scoring during the tournaments. To be determined is if we will score through the Golf Genius app or utilize the Raccoon Creek app. As with all new implementations there is a learning process. If you have not done so already, it is recommended that you download both apps from your device’s app platform.

To refresh everyone’s memories, this from last year’s message:

“The board has been working hard to develop the schedule for the upcoming season. This has not been without challenges. Raccoon Creek is a privately owned golf course and they have financial targets that must be met for the owners and their primary revenue producer is running corporate and non-profit fund-raising golf tournaments. The course has become a preferred destination for these events and has resulted in some scheduling conflicts.”

This may result in some tournaments being rescheduled but should not affect our “major” tournaments.

 Points of emphasis:

  • Pace of play continues to be an area of focus. We have done a great job over the last two years.
  • Timely registration will be required, or you will be waitlisted for participation.

As always, please feel free to reach out to the board members with any comments, questions, or concerns.

Remember this is our club and we rely on everybody to help ensure a good experience for all.

Let us welcome our new members and have a great season.  See you on the course.

Hit’em straight
