Terms of the Competition

 

Eligibility:  Open to any male amateur golfer who is a member of a WMGA Member Club, has an up-to-date USGA handicap index (through either the VSGA or MSGA handicap programs), of 6.4 or less at time of entry, and has reached his 25th birthday by June 1, 2021. An entrant from a public facility or a verifiable eClub must reside within the WMGA territory: District of Columbia, the Maryland counties of Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, Prince Georges, St. Mary’s and Washington; the Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford; and the independent cities within these Virginia counties.  Members of clubs that are not a WMGA member but are members of MSGA or VSGA member clubs are eligible on a space available basis.  Contact 410-991-7843 for entry information.  

 

Entry Fee:  $150.00 per player (which includes golf cart and range ball fees for both rounds).  Entries in excess of the first 78 players will be waitlisted.  The defending Champion is guaranteed a spot.

 

Entries open Monday, March 15 and close Monday, May 24 at 6:00 PM.  Refunds:  If a player withdraws by closing date/time - refund is subject to a $25.00 admin fee.  If a player withdraws after that date and time, no refund will be given.

 

Format:  36 holes of Stroke Play.  There is no cut after the first round.

 

Rules of Golf:  Play will be governed by the Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA and the R & A.   The competition is final when the trophy has been presented to the winner or, in the absence of a prize ceremony, when all scores have been approved by the Committee.

Prizes:  The winner will receive a trophy and his name will be inscribed on the Robert D. Benson Memorial Trophy.  (Mr. Benson, a Kenwood Club member, was President of the WMGA in 1984.)  Merchandise certificates will be awarded to the champion and low scorers. 

 

Start Times:  Starting times will be posted on http://www.wmgagolf.org shortly after close of entries.

 

Practice:  Call the club the club to schedule.  The fee is the published green fee for the selected day/start time.
