Terms of the Competition

 

Eligibility:  Open to any male amateur golfer who is a member of a WMGA Member Club, has a USGA handicap index of 9.4 or less at time of entry.  A Mid-Master golfer must be 40 on or before August 31and may not turn 55 until after the event.  A Senior golfer must be 55, a Super Senior golfer must be 65, and a Legend golfer must be 70 on or before August 31.  An entrant from a public facility or a verifiable eClub must reside within the WMGA territory: District of Columbia, the Maryland counties of Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, Prince Georges, St. Mary’s and Washington; the Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William and Stafford; and the independent cities within these Virginia counties.  Members of clubs that are not a WMGA member but are members of WMGA or VSGA clubs are eligible.  

 

Entry Fee:  $200.00 per player (which includes golf cart and range balls both days).  Entries in excess of the first 120 players will be waitlisted.  The defending Champions are guaranteed spots in the field.

 

Entries open Monday, April 19 at 9:00 AM and close Tuesday, August 24 at 6:00 PM.  Refunds:  If a player withdraws by closing date/time - refund is subject to a $25.00 admin fee.  If a player withdraws after that date and time, no refund will be given. 

 

Format:  The competition will be 36 holes stroke play for each division. There is no cut after round 1. 

 

Seniors and Mid-Masters will play from app. 6,500 yds.

Super Seniors will play from app. 6,000 yds.

Legends will play from app. 5,600 yds.

 

A player must select on the entry form which competition he is entering.  A Super Senior player may play down to the Senior Division.  A Legend player may play down to either Super Senior or Senior Division.  If there are not enough players to form a Legends Div., those players may play in the Super Senior Division or receive a full refund.

 

Rules of Golf: Play will be governed by the Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA and the R & A.   The competition is final when the trophy has been presented to the winner or, in the absence of a prize ceremony, when all scores have been approved by the Committee.

Prizes:  The Mid-Master Champion, Senior Champion, and Super Senior Champion will each receive a crystal trophy.  The Senior Champion’s name also will be inscribed on the Henry Litchfield West permanent trophy, a sterling silver bowl donated by Roy Pickford.  Merchandise certificate prizes will also be awarded to low scorers. In the event of a tie for any division, there will be a hole-by-hole play-off at the conclusion of play.  All other ties will be resolved by the USGA method of 'Matching Scorecards' as outlined on page 403 of the 'Official Guide to the Rules of Golf.'  

 

Start Times:  Starting times will be e-mailed to all contestants and may be viewed by visiting http://www.wmgagolf.org shortly after close of entries.

 

Practice:  Call the Hobbit’s Glen GC pro shop at (410) 798-5865 to schedule a practice round. The fee, including cart, range, and taxes, is $60.00 per player.  Practice is available Monday - Thursday and Saturday-Sunday after 1:30 PM.  No practice available Fridays.  Call four days in advance.
