The 2021 Sunshine Senior Tour Qualifying School

1.         Venue:

 

Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club -East Course

 

2.         Format & Conditions of Entry

 

The Q-School will be played in accordance with the rules and regulations as set out by the R&A in a 36-hole stroke play event for professionals and amateurs, who are 50 years of age or older on or before 31st July 2021, with 18 holes being played on each of the days of, 21st January and 22nd January 2021. The amateur handicap verification required is three (4), as well as other playing ability references.

 

In the event of any weather delays the results of the tournament will be decided by the TD on 22nd January 2021. The field size will be limited to a maximum of 60 professionals and amateurs with all players playing off the same teeing ground and course set-up on the respective competition days. The top 10 qualifiers will receive Regular Membership and included in category 7(a) of the Ranking and Exemption List. The next 5 qualifiers will receive conditional cards and be slotted in at category 7(c) and together with the rest will be able to pre-qualify for events in 2021.

 

Senior Tour members who finished in the top 30 of the SAST order of merit 2020, as of 31st December 2020, may not enter the 2021 Q-School. Other 2020 Senior Tour members may enter to improve their ranking and exemption category for 2020. The Ranking and Exemption listing for events in 2021 is found on the Senior Tour website.

 

There will not be a cut after the first day of play. Only professionals, who complete the 36 holes and finish in the top 10 places or ties, will be eligible for a share of the prize fund of R20 000. Amateur entrants, who entered as an amateur and who finish in the top 10 will not be paid from the prize fund. However, these players may qualify for Senior Tour membership and will be accepted as a Regular Member. Those amateur entrants who do not make the top 10 may not be considered professionals and may retain their amateur status.

 

 

 

3.        Conditions and Exemptions for Entry into the Starting Field/Draw

 

  • All professionals must check their exemption status on the SA Senior Tour Website www.seniortour.co.za or through the Tournament Director (TD), Neville Clarke (0765995525). The entry form must be completed in full and returned by Email to admin@seniortour.co.za by the closing date. An ‘image rights’ document and declaration must be signed at the event registration by all competitors.  

 

4.         Practice Day and Practice Facilities

 

The official practice day is Wednesday 20th January 2021. Players must book practice times through the Club (011 640 3021)at no cost to Q-School competitors.

 

Players’ may use the practice driving range at a cost to SAST from 20-22 January 2021. Times as follows: Wednesday; 07.00-17.00; Thursday; 06.00-17.00; Friday; 06.00-08.30.

 

5.         Registration

 

All senior professional competitors are required to register with the SA Senior Tour by 18.00 on Tuesday, 19th January 2021.This may be done in person at the venue or by telephone/sms/email to the Senior Tour Tournament Director on 082 490 4027 or email: td@seniortour.co.za

 

6.       Entry Fee, Withdrawals and Refunds

 

  • The Entry Fee for all players in the event is R2400.00. A copy of a proof of payment (Please quote your name as reference for your payment) must be sent to admin@seniortour.co.za.A further annual subscription of R1600.00 is payable by competitors by 28th February 2021 to ensure Senior Tour membership for 2021.
  • Entries close 31st December 2021 at 6pm.
  • Professionals must enter as per SAST Rules and Regulations.
  • Withdrawals BEFORE 18:00 hours on 31st December 2020; a full refund will be possible.
  • If a player is absent on the tee without notification, no refund will be given and a fine may be imposed. The Tournament Committee will decide on refunds from withdrawals after the closing date for entries on medical and compassionate grounds only.
  • Once an entrant has teed off, refund of entry is not possible under any circumstances.
  • If an entrant is late on the tee, when called upon to start, in the first round of the event, the player shall be disqualified after an absence of 5 minutes and substituted by the next available alternate player from the late entry list. The R&A rule 6-3a will apply for duration of the tournament.

 

7.         Catering

 

A Grab & Go snack and soft drink will be available to all players for their own account after 9 holes in the round without causing undue delay. Fruit and water will be freely available on the 1st and 10th tees throughout the event.

 

8.         Caddies, Motorised Carts, Trolleys

 

Motorised Carts are allowed to be used in the event.There may not be enough caddies or carts available at the Club during the event.

 

Those competitors requiring a caddie or cart should make their own arrangements   with the club or liaise with the Tournament Director in this regard as soon as possible to ensure an allocation or decision thereon. (Latest 8th January 2021)

 

No caddies are permitted in the clubhouse at any time during the tournament, as per the Golf Club rules, unless permission is granted in advance.

 

Carts numbers are limited, and members are urged to book in advance with the club.

 

If required, all tee time groups will only be allowed two carts per group. Therefore, sharing may be necessary. Again, it is the Players’ responsibility to organise his own cart booking and usage. Costs are for the Player’s account.

 

Players may elect to walk and play using their own trolleys and/or caddies.

 

There will be no motorised transport to ferry players (those walking) from greens to tee areas where there are ‘long-distances’.

 

 

9.         SA Senior Tour Rules and Regulations/Additional Local Rules

 

All SA Senior Tour rules, terms and conditions apply.  A full list of the event Rules and Regulations and Additional Local Rules will be available on the venue notice boards, as well as from the starters on the 1st tee. Competitors are specifically asked to note:

a)         One ball rule is applicable for competitors.

b)         Prohibitions on practice putting.(no practise putting during play)

c)         Play suspensions in a dangerous situation requires an immediate stop for all players.

d)         Pace of play – please refer to your SAST “Hard Card’.

 

10.       SA Senior Tour-Tee-Time/ Draws

 

           There may be SA Senior Tour members on the Event Committee.

           Neville Clarke is the Tournament Director and his decision on event matters will

           be final.

 

           The draw for the first round will be made available on the website and at the

           Club notice board from 6pm on 15th January 2021. An SMS will also be sent

to competitors advising of the same and before each subsequent round.  

      

                                  

11.      Play Off and Completion of the Event

 

In the event of a tie for first place, the players’ will be required to play in a sudden death format until a winner is established. Holes, 10 & 9, repeated if necessary, until a winner is apparent.

 

           In the event of a tie(s) for the other places, the results will be decided by the

           following:

          

  • Best last round
  • Then best last 9 holes where applicable (Holes 10-18)
  • Then best last 6 holes (Holes 13-18)
  • In another way by the TD if the above remains unsolved

           

           The event will be considered closed by the TD when all scores are

           recorded and a winner has been established. A minimum of 18 holes’ is

           required to determine the top 10 qualifying places to be included in the exemption

           category 7(a).

 

 

12.      Prize giving

 

           Prize giving for the event will take place in the Bell Tower Room as soon as

           possible after the completion of the event.

 

There is compulsory attendance required by all the senior professionals in the Tournament for membership induction and card issue.

 

The player recording the lowest score for 36 holes or the player successful in the play-off will be declared the winner.
