Overview

 

The Berkshire Trophy is a World Amateur Golf Ranking, 72 Hole, Scratch Competition played over two days. After 36 holes, the leading 40 competitors, and ties, shall play a further 36 holes.

 

Entry Requirements

 

The Maximum Handicap Index for any player wishing to enter The Berkshire Trophy is scratch. Entries will be limited to 120. In the event of applications exceeding this number, a ballot will take place on exact Handicap Index. The next 10 lowest Handicap Index players will then form the reserve list. The Club reserves the right to accept or refuse any entry, regardless of Handicap Index.  

 

Entry Fee

 

Entry Fee for The Berkshire Trophy: £85. All payments for the competition must be made via Golf Genius. Players will only be charged the entry fee when their entry has been confirmed on Golf Genius. The entry fee is exclusive of meals.

 

There will be no refund of entry fee if you withdraw from the competition within 72 hours from the start of the first round. This does not apply to those golfers reaching the final stages of The Amateur Championship, who will automatically have their entry fee refunded.  Once the draw has been made, it will be emailed out to all competitors. 

 

The closing date for entries will be midday on Friday 4th June 2021. 

 

Format of Play

 

72 Hole Medal. Competitors play two qualifying rounds, one on The Blue Course and one on The Red Course. The leading 40 scores and ties, will go through to play two further rounds on The Red Course on the Sunday.

 

 

Practice Rounds

 

Friday 18th June 2021 will be the designated Practice Day. All confirmed competitors will be extended courtesy of the club facilities for the day. A green fee of £185 will be charged for those wishing to play with the competitor on the practice day.  Please contact the office on 01344 621495 - Option 1 or golf@theberkshire.co.uk to book your round. Please report to the Caddiemaster upon arrival.

 

 

The Berkshire Trophy - Prizes

 

Presented in 1946 The Berkshire Trophy winner will be the competitor returning the lowest scratch score over 72 holes. In the eventuality two or more players are tied after 72 holes they share the trophy; there is no playoff. A prize will be awarded to the Winner and Runner-Up. The leading six players will receive prize vouchers redeemable in professional golf shops only. Past winners of the event include: Sir Michael Bonallack, Sir Nick Faldo, Sandy Lyle, Gary Wolstenhome and Eddie Pepperell.

 

 

The Philip Scrutton Jug

 

The Philip Scrutton Jug was donated in 1959 by the widow and mother of Philip Scrutton. The player with the lowest combined aggregate score over the Brabazon and Berkshire Trophy will receive the Philip Scrutton Jug. 

 

WAGR

 

The Berkshire Trophy is a WAGR qualifying event. The WAGR classification will be determined after the event by the WAGR team.
