Championship Event Overview

 

Registration Fee: $180 per player (includes range fees/prizes)

 

Entry Deadline:  May 19

 

Format: 54-holes of stroke play with the lowest score determining the winner. Play is scheduled as follows: First round, 18-holes.  Second round, 18-holes. The low 40 and ties continue to third round. Players will be re-paired according to 36-hole results.

 

Eligibility: Open to any male amateur who are members of a PAGA Member Club or an Individual Member of the PAGA and have a USGA Handicap Index of 7.4 or lower. Individual Members must be residents of the state of Pennsylvania.

  

Field: Field is limited to approximately 120 entries. The field will consist of exempt and at large players. Each entrant, not exempt, shall compete in a sectional qualifying event to determine the aproximate 120-player field.  At closing it will be determined how many spots are available for qualifying once exempt players have been identified. 

 

Check In:  Players will check in at the starting tee 10 minutes prior to their tee time.  Please note that the starting holes are 1 and 11.  Players starting on the 11th hole will have a 5-minute walk to the starting tee and should plan accordingly to arrive 10 minutes prior to their tee time.

 

Cart/Caddie: Automotive transportation is NOT permitted. Players may walk and carry, bring a caddie or hire a club caddie. Club caddie information: Please contact Tim Carroll at caddiemaster@meriongolfclub.com to reserve a caddie (no calls please). Caddie fee is $100 plus tip ($120 in total).

 

Practice Range:  Players choosing to use the practice range will need to drive to and park at the practice range parking lot.  Players can then drive back to the main parking lot before there round.  Shuttle service will NOT be available to players who park in the main parking lot.

 

Players are NOT permitted hit balls over the net at the end of range.  Players should use their best judgement when selecting clubs to warmup at the range.

 

Practice Rounds:  Will NOT be available at Merion Golf Club.

 

Prizes: The Amateur trophy will be awarded to the player returning the lowest gross score for 54-holes in the Amateur Championship.  Additional prizes will be awarded to the top 15 finishers.

 

Prizes will also be awarded to the team (team members must be from the same club) that posts the best 2 scores of 3 for the first two rounds of the event.

 

Putting Green:  The small putting green near the proshop will be closed during the Championship.

 

Scoring/Verification: All players will be issued paper scorecards.  Players will need to keep score for another player in the pairing. All scores will need to sign and attested and returned to the scoring area after completion of your round.  Volunteers on the course will collect scores for live scoring.

 

Spectators: Are permitted. Please see Club Information/Policies below.

 

Ties: In the event of a tie for the lowest score in the Amateur Championship, a sudden-death playoff will be held following conclusion of play.  All other ties will be broken by matching scorecards in accordance with USGA guidelines.

 

Weather:  Should weather delay play beyond the last scheduled day, the competition will not be extended and the Championship will be shortened. The Championship will not be extended past July 28.

 

 Club Information/Policies

 

Attire: Hats and caps must be worn with the brim facing forward. Hats, caps and visors worn by gentlemen should be removed while they are under cover (Dining Terraces and in the Clubhouse). “No cover under cover.” 

 

Cell Phone Policy:  Mobile devices may only be used for voice or silent functions, including texting and emailing, in the privacy of your automobile or in designated house phone rooms. Cell phone cameras may be used anywhere on Club property, except at the Practice Range and Teaching Facility, provided the action is exercised with good judgment and the photos are for personal use only.

 

Clubhouse:  Is restricted to members, players, caddies, volunteers and PA Golf Staff.  Spectators are NOT permitted in the clubhouse.

 

Food & Beverage: Lunch will be provided each day of competition for all players from approximately 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is included in the entry fee. Caddies are permitted to purchase lunch in the clubhouse. Spectators are NOT permitted in lunch dining area.

 

Additional F&B purchases will be available for spectators at the halfway hut and the concession stand behind the first tee.

 

Locker Rooms: Will be available to players and caddies ONLY.

 

Parking:  Will be available at the main lot at Merion Golf Club. The club and association request that players car pool with caddies and any spectators.

 

Restrooms:  A portable restroom will be available in the parking lot near the Proshop.  Restrooms will also be available at the learning center and at the halfway house.

 

Shoes: Please use the Locker Rooms or Bungalow to change shoes and clothing, as the course parking lots and the Caddie Master’s office are NOT acceptable alternatives.

 

Spikes: Black Widow Soft Spikes are NOT permitted at Merion.
