Rules of Play

 

Play will be governed by the Rules of the United States Golf Association (the "USGA") and by the following local rules and definitions, subject to further changes from the Rules Committee.  Appendix 1, referred to in the following, refers to Local Rules in the 2019 USGA Rules of Golf booklet.

 

1.   All contestants will play from the blue tee markers except those contestants with a handicap of 20 or more will have tees assigned by the committee, those players aged 65-74 may opt to use the white tees at a cost of one stroke per match, and those 75 or older may opt to use the green tees at a cost of two strokes per match.

 

2.   The format is four-ball match play (Rule 30).  Handicaps are as marked on the scorecards.  Fourteen (14) club rule is in effect.

 

3.   Abnormal Ground Condition: (Rule 16)

(1)  Area is as defined by enclosed white lines.

(2)  In sodded areas, relief is granted only if the ball lies in a sod seam.

 

4.   Obstructions: (Rule 24).

(1)  Water fountains, rain shelters, flower beds etc.

(2)  Protective wires around trees.

(3)  Immovable obstructions within two club lengths of the green; local rule F-5 applies.

 

5.   Penalty Areas: (Rule 26).

Yellow Penalty Areas are defined by yellow lines and/or yellow stakes.  Red Penalty Areas defined by red stakes/lines. In instances where both lines and stakes are used, the line will define the hazard.

 

6.  Ties

7.  Signals for Suspending Play:

If you hear the warning horn, please seek shelter immediately.  If you should see lightning, you should discontinue play immediately and seek shelter - even if the horn has not yet sounded.  Resume play when the danger is over unless notified by the Rules Committee.

 

8.  Pace of Play:

Maintain your position on the golf course without lag.  In the event that a contestant is "out of the hole", please pick up your ball and let the others in the foursome complete play.  Please clear each hole promptly and be prepared to hit when it is your turn.  Rule 6-7 states, "the player shall play without undue delay".

 

9. Check with Starter for any additional local rules.

 

NOTE: All teams will be responsible for ensuring that accurate results of all matches are posted immediately after each round’s match.
