Player Information

It is with great pride that the Calgary Golf & Country Club plays host to the best male amateur golfers in the province for the 2021 edition of the Alberta Amateur Championship. The Alberta Golf Association and the Calgary Golf & Country Club have enjoyed a long and rich history, with the CG&CC last hosting this event in 2008. Scott Stiles claimed the title with an impressive score of 3-under par, 281 for the 72-hole championship. Long-time club members Bob Wylie and Doug Silverberg, both inductees of the Alberta and Canadian Golf Halls of Fame, have won a combined 37 Provincial Championships. We welcome both as honorary starters for this year’s event.

Founded in 1897, the Calgary Golf & Country Club is situated on 113 acres of land on the banks of the Elbow River, having occupied three sites previously before moving to its current location after acquiring the land from the Canadian Pacific Railroad Company in 1911 for a purchase price of $100 per acre. In 1922, the services of Scottish golf course architect Willie Park Jr. were secured and much of Park’s work survives today, with the routing and green sites virtually unchanged nearly one hundred years later.

In 2020 and 2021, the golf course underwent an extensive renovation, consisting of the replacement of all irrigation and cart paths, re-sodding of fairways, tees, and rough areas, reshaping and replacement of all bunkers and sand, and the removal of 100 mature trees on the property. While not long by modern standards, undulating, tree lined fairways and small greens which average 5400sq/ft and typically roll at championship speeds daily for member play will provide for a fair and challenging test for all participants. For the returning golfer and the uninitiated competitor alike, we are certain that you will enjoy all that the golf course has to offer.

Please take the time to read the information package and familiarize yourself with the club’s rules and regulations. On behalf of the management and the members of the Calgary Golf & Country Club, we would like to extend our warmest welcome to each competitor and wish you the best of luck during the championship.
