The Event

The SGA Championships is a 72-hole golf tournament for amateur golfers. The event format for the individual grades is single stableford over four rounds. In addition, there is a team’s event to add some extra fun and interest to the tournament. For this, the best 3 out of 4 individual stableford scores are aggregated to make the daily team total. The team with the best total over four days wins the SGA Championships teams title for their club.

Handicaps: Daily results for all players will be entered on GOLF Link and will count towards players’ handicaps. Each player is personally responsible for ensuring that he or she is playing off the correct daily handicap on each day.

Grades: Grades are determined according to divisions made between GA Handicaps. Players remain in the grades in which they started the tournament, irrespective of changes to their handicap during the event. The individual grades in 2022 are:

A Grade                GA Handicaps from                          0 – 14.9

B Grade                GA Handicaps from                          15 – 20

C Grade                GA Handicaps from                          20.1 and above

Ladies Grade      All Ladies

Briefing & carts: Golf course staff will brief players before the shotgun starts. Please keep carts out of the rough at all times.

Splitting ties: Players are reminded that there will be no play-offs, and countbacks will be used to separate tied scores.

Weather: If there is storm activity during play and the possibility of lightning, sirens will be sounded on the course and players are to mark their balls and return to the clubhouse.

The Welcome Party: 7:15 – 9:15pm Sunday. The function is at The Mantra Legends Hotel, Grand Terrace. Dress is neat casual.

Prizes: We have prizes each day for the best individual grade rounds and the best team results. Nearest the Pins are on all par-threes and one Long Drive hole will be marked on the scorecard each day. Note these are team events – the player who takes out the NTP or the LD wins prizes for their team. There will be a presentation of day prizes at the course after all four rounds.

At the Presentation Dinner on Friday evening, we will present trophies and prizes to the leading players in each grade and the leading teams.

Golf Transfers: For SGA Championships participants who have opted in for our Golf Club Valet Service and Transfers, the transfers to and from golf on all days of the Championships will depart from outside Mantra Legends Hotel at the times listed in the itinerary. Golfers staying at other properties will need to make their way to Mantra Legends. These are the times of bus departures -- i.e. when the wheels roll, so please be at the bus 10 minutes prior to these times.

Note that there will be two coaches throughout the week. Each coach will be managed by an SGA Staff Member - either Sheri Yu, or Richard Fellner. Your name will be assigned to one of these coaches for the entire week (Coach Sheri, or Coach Richard), and your SGA Staff Member will tick your name off the list for each transfer. The coach WILL NOT DEPART until all names have been ticked off the list, so please ensure you check-in with your assigned SGA Team Member.

Golf Bag Tags: Players receive a bag tag at registration. Please secure this to your golf bag as soon as you receive it. If you don't have your name/tag on your golf bag, we will not be able to efficiently manage your bag throughout the week, and  you also create the opportunity for the bag to be lost. For our golfers who have opted for Golf Club Valet, we will store and deliver your bag to the courses each day and have it waiting on your golf cart. If you wish to keep your bag in your room, please keep it with you. Always remove valuables from your bag before storing it with us after golf.

The Draw: Players are drawn to share a round with one of their teammates on at least three of the days and two people from another club. Competitors are required to share a golf cart with a member of another club. Where possible, we have rotated the pairings so competitors play with different people each day.

Dress Standards: Each player receives a Championship shirt & cap as a souvenir of the tournament. This shirt and cap must be worn to the round where we take the SGA Championship group photo (Tuesday). Collared shirts & closed shoes are required for all players.
